World Juniors 2013

So, finally some good hockey entertainment, eh? :)

Only some two weeks till they drop the puck in Ufa on Dec 26th.

Grupp A: (playing in Sports Palace, Ufa, capacity 5001)
Sweden, ruling champs
Finland
Czechs
Switzerland
Latvia

Grupp B: (playing in Ufa Arena, Ufa, capacity 7988)
Russia, hosts
Canada
Slovakia
USA
Germany

Happy to see Latvia playing in the top division. I have a soft spot for their happy go lucky offense is all that matters brand of hockey, and their fans are just the best. Whenever Latvia plays, there is a party in the stands. 8-)

With just some two million inhabitants and not much of a hockey league (their best team, Dynamo Riga, plays in the Russian-based KHL), I was worried that they might have problems developing new players, but apparently not! :)

Group winners go straight to the semifinal while teams ending second and third play quarter finals first.
I forecast Sweden as winners of Group A. Not sure if it will be Canada or Russia in Group B.

Thoughts?

Anybody know the time difference and game times?

I don't have cable so I'm going to see about streaming games hopefully. Wonder if TSN will live stream the tournament...

But the tournament is held in Russia... :eh:

The road to Hell is paved with a standard mix of asphalt and stone chips.

Edit: btw, if you contact NSB, the Norwegian Railways, you can buy one way tickets to Hell, which I am sure you may consider an excellent gift to in-laws, colleagues, neighbours and other people you know.

I gotta say I was impressed with Joel Armia. Without a doubt the best player on the ice yesterday. Big kid, smooth skating and soft hands. The Sabres could have a gem there.

Canadians looked gassed.

Canada beats Sweden in the dress rehearsal after a penalty shootout, 1-1 in regulation.

But what the f--- is wrong with Booner? Late dirty hit in a freaking friendly? The Fuck?!!

Jesper Pettersson suffered a dislocated shoulder and a fractured wrist and - needless to say - will miss the entire tournament. :(

Hopefully they slam the book at Jenner and make him miss it too. It's not like it's a one time occurence either, last year he took out a Finn the same way.

Other than late, I didn't see much dirty about the hit. I agree though, he should be gone. Not getting a suspension for the Maata hit last year but one game for the spear against the Russian will not work in his favour.

Canada will miss him as he was their most effective forward in the initial two pre tourney games.

As a whole, the Canadians have looked pretty stinky so far. They appear to believe they are a bunch of lockout hold overs who don't need to work for it.
