We’ve had black jerseys a number of times but it’s the black maple leaf that makes these so dark. Not sure why they went that route!
What the meaning of the black suppose to be? What does it represent?

Not really sure, Hockey Canada has always had black in their logo though.

They can’t use that at the Olympics so maybe they’ve kept black.

You see most Canada jerseys/uniforms have some black just to give some contrast. And maybe so we don’t look like the Swiss!

It was always straight red and white in the early days. I don't like the black at all. To me it's just not Canadian at all.

Fits to Canucks management.

Per, good luck trying to beat the Russians, it's not impossible but they have the better players on start. Just roundhousekick them.

Complete dark looks like Zorro, for my taste they just should have made the leaf full red.

Some people have a theory that black jerseys somehow scare the opponents subconsciously.

I think that is some crazy new age bullshit.

I find it embarrassing how bad the Swedish women's hockey team is.

Not sure their players are better than ours...

Both teams have 13 players with NHL experience, but ours have played a combined 2095 games and the Russians just 1687. We have seven players with more than 100 NHL games and they have five.

All their players play in the KHL. We have 9 from the KHL, 10 from the SHL and 6 from the Swiss National League. Most of our players have played in two, three or four major leagues (NHL, KHL, SHL, AHL or the Swiss) whereas many of their players have only played in Russia. So ours have a more diverse experience, as different leagues tend to have slightly different cultures.

All our goalies play in the KHL, and post competitive number compared to the Russian goalies. If you just look at the 20/21 KHL season:

Goalie................. Nat. GAA - SVS% - W-L-T
Lars Johansson........(SWE) 1.63 .932 20-9-2
Timur Bilyalov........ (RUS) 2.06 .916 18-10-5
Ivan Fedotov.......... (RUS) 2.00 .919 14-10-2
Adam Reideborn..... (SWE) 2.37 .902 12-7-2
Magnus Hellberg..... (SWE) 2.42 .917 13-20-4
Alexander Samsonov (RUS) 3.01 .886 3-2-3
(it can be noted that all three of Reideborn, Hellberg and Samsonov had better stats last year, but this is now)

Our best goalie is better than theirs, our two best combine for 32-16-4 and theirs for 32-20-7, and I'd say their third stringer is worse than our, even if his W-L-T is better. Those are ugly GAA and SVS% stats.

And stats from this tournament:
Scoring efficency:
Sweden 10.86% - Russia 8.33%

Powerplay:
Sweden 5/19 26.32% - Russia 2/14 14.29%

Penalty killing:
Sweden 4/13 69.23% - Russia 5/13 61.54%

Both teams have won three games and lost one in overtime. Both teams have allowed 7 goals against, Russia on 108 SOG and Sweden on 107 SOG, so that gives Russia a slight edge in svs% (.9352 vs .9346) but pretty much similar numbers. Russia has had two shutouts though and Sweden only one.

The Russian players average 6'1" and 194 lbs. The Swedish players 6'1" and 193 lbs.
Average age on the Russian team is 26.6 years and for Sweden 28.8, but both teams have five players over 30.
The main difference in age is caused by the goalies, which are 25-26-26 on team Russia and 30-30-34 on the Swedish team.
And when it comes to goalies they tend to age like wine and just get better with age... :look:

I'd say on paper the teams look very similar. Sweden has scored a total of 12 goals, Russia 11.

It will be a tough game and it's hard to tell who will gain the upper hand. It's a toss up.
Just like in the Sweden vs Canada game it will probably come down to an individual error or a lucky bounce.
But our special teams are better, so I hope that may give us a slight edge.

Two Canucks on the Swedish blue line; Fantenberg and Philip Holm.
