Sweden’s strategy in this tournament seems to be to take a 3-0 lead and then defend it, with mixed results.
3-2 win against Latvia
4-1 win against Slovakia
3-4 ot loss against Finland
Sweden’s 7 points mean we end up the best second place team and still get a bye; we’re ranked fourth and there is no qualification game needed to reach the QF.

Re: 2022 Winter Olympics - Beijing
Canada is playing really sloppy against China (albeit most of the Chinese players also seem to be Canadian ) but let's assume they will put in the effort necessary to beat them. That would mean quarter finals look like this:
USA vs Slovakia
This should be a no brainer. USA wins.
Russia vs Denmark
Same here, but Russia has not looked as convincing as expected and Denmark has surprised so far. But still, Russia wins.
Finland vs Switzerland
Finland is looking good and could actually have a shot at going all the way. I can't see the Swiss winning this, even though they did just beat the Czechs in the qualification game, so I could be wrong.
Sweden vs Canada
I'd say this is the hardest one to predict. Of the last 18 championship games that they have faced eachother, Canada has won 12 and Sweden 6. That speaks for Canada, but is not a given. Also, this kind of tournament, with no NHL players make things a bit hard to predict. From what I have seen so far Sweden looks like a fairly well balanced team. They beat Latvia 3-2 and Slovakia 4-1 and then lost to Finland in ot. Canada beat Germany 5-1 and China 5-0 but lost to the USA 4-2. Neither Germany nor China is a real test, so it is hard to tell what level this Canadian team plays at. I wouldn't be surprised to see this game go into overtime, but I think I give Canada a slight edge as favourites.
Semifinals will then be highest seed vs lowest seed, in this case that means USA vs Canada. Thus we get these matchups:
USA vs Canada
I don't know, from what I've seen so far, USA looks stronger. I guess they take it.
Russia vs Finland
Most of the time the Russians will win this matchup, but they have not been convincing. They only beat Switzerland 1-0 and Denmark 2-0 and they actually lost against the Czechs in ot. Meanwhile the Finns look strong. They beat Slovakia 6-2 and Latvia 3-1 and then against Sweden they were behind 3-0 but turned the game around and won 4-3 in ot. I say they beat Russia.
That would give us a USA vs Finland final. Tough to predict, but I would not be surprised if the Finns win their first Olympic hockey gold ever.

Watched the game at work
Both gave each other not much at all, one big mistake, one goal..... and the emptynetter.
Nevertheless it was entertaining.

Better game than I expected, but you could still feel that it wasn’t really the best of the best that were on the ice.
Handful of good players on each team though, and none that were total crap.
But I hope we get to see NHL players in the olympic tournament in 2026.
With the US eliminated Finland is now the highest seed and Slovakia the lowest.
Which means we get to play Russia.

Well Per, if you’re going to knock out Canada, I’d appreciate it if you took out Russia as well.

I didn't really get into the hockey this time around. What was the deal with those black uniforms anyway?
Are we pirates now?

We’ve had black jerseys a number of times but it’s the black maple leaf that makes these so dark. Not sure why they went that route!Megaterio Llamas wrote: ↑Wed Feb 16, 2022 7:55 pm I didn't really get into the hockey this time around. What was the deal with those black uniforms anyway?
