I am really sorry, Per!!!!! The Finnish goal late in the third was offside. Sucks.
Three Canucks coming home as Sweden loses to Finland 5-4 in 3 on 3 overtime.

Pathetic! :(

But not a fluke. Finland was the better team.
Swedenwith 21 NHL players, Finland with 0.
But the Finns dominated on the ice, outshot Sweden 32-18.

I don't know what went wrong, this Swedish team should be so much better.

I mean, the defence... Oliver Ekman-Larsson, Adam Larsson, Klingberg, Ekholm, Gustafsson, Marcus Pettersson...
How can a blue line with these players look like Swiss cheese?

And neither Lundquist nor Markström rose to the occassion.
Jacob did not look good against Russia and Henrik did not look good tonight.
You need a hot goalie to win, and I expected more of both these guys.
Not their best work. :|

Oh, well. Guess that means it's summer now.

Quite possibly, but the coach chose not to challenge it.

But Hörnqvist should have held on to the puck instead of aiming at the empty net.
More important that the clock keeps ticking and the Finns don't get the puck.

This photo shows the Finnish player still touching the blue line as the puck has crossed it, so probably a good decision not to make a coach's challenge.

We just have to accept that the Finns played better in this game.

Still think Hörnqvist should have held on to the puck instead of going for the empty net though. :(

Short interview with Elias Pettersson in Expressen:

Swedish star Elias Pettersson is very disappointed after the exodus. The 20-year old sensation would have liked to win a second consecutive world championship gold.
”It’s tough, but hockey is hockey,” he says and continues:
”Of course it is very tough, we wanted to go further and we wanted to win this. Then they score a tying goal right at the end, so it’s very harsh right now.

This was Grönborg’s last game as Sweden’s coach, what can you say about him?
”A great coach, he let’s me play my game and he got the team prepared. A very good coach.”

Many call this a fiasco, what would you like to tell them?
”I don’t think it’s a fiasco, Finland is a good team. Finland does it well, they don’t quit, you can’t just say everything is our fault, because the Finns played really well.

What do you think you did wrong?
”It’s when we’re up 3-1, and we stop playing our game and let them back in, but on the other hand the Finns do it well, they don’t quit. I’m not going to stand here and say it’s all on us.”

Is this the worst loss of your career?
It’s definitely up there… All losses are bad, but losing in a big tournament is probably even worse. It’s this and that WJC final when we lost with 1:40 on the clock,” Elias Pettersson says.

Lundquist and Markström failed to make saves they normally would. Hard to generate momentum of any duration when the saves
aren't being made.

Russia eliminated by the Finns! :rockin:

Chicago prospect Kevin Lankinen in goal is having a huge tournament. He has already helped Finland beat Canada, Sweden and Russia in his first world championship ever. Pretty sure the Finns stick with him in the final as well, even if it's back to back games.

Soft spoken Swedish-speaking Finn who is looking amazing in the crease.
Crawford and Ward have better watch out, he is coming to steal their job!

Canada beats Czechs.

So, Canada vs Finland in the final while the Russians and Czechs battle it out for the bronze medals.

I'll miss the final though. EU parliamentary elections tomorrow, and I'll be working as an election officer.

5-1 Canada......................................................................1-0 Finland
.
Nice pass by Stecher on Canada's first goal. Finland is playing an up-the-middle trapping game that on the big ice, is very
difficult to break.
Having said that, if Canada scores 3 or more, they probably gitt gold medals.
Stecher with a gold medal for his Canuck fans. They'll go wild. Maybe have a beer in the early afternoon.
Watch the ceremony dogg  nevermind.
.
I've often thought that IIHF World Championships was a so-so name.

The IIHF Conciliation Championships, has a good ring to it. J/K, really! bad mick.
