Best all time World Championship ppg averages (minimum ten games played):

1. William Nylander, Sweden 1.69 (22/13)

2. Patrick Kane, USA 1.65 (33/20)

3. Nikita Kucherov, Russia 1.62 (21/13)

4. Boris Mikhailov, Soviet 1.57 (164/105)

5. Vladimir Petrov, Soviet 1.51 (152/101)

6. Sidney Crosby, Canada 1.50 (27/18)

7. Pierre Larouche, Canada 1.50 (15/10)

8. Valeri Kharlamov, Russia 1.49 (156/105)

9. Artemi Panarin, Russia 1.45 (42/29)

10. Zigmund Palffy, Slovakia 1.43 (43/30)

Wayne Gretsky had 14 Points in 10 games, so 1.4, which is not quite good enough to make the top ten.
Yeah, really. If Toronto wants to get rid of Nylander, I wouldn't half mind seeing him don a jersey with an orca on it.

Gabriel Landeskog added to the Swedish troop!

Elias Pettersson is not happy with his own performance so far; only three points in three games... :o

Thus he was on the ice yesterday, practicing with the backups, the players who have not played yet and could be replaced by last minute NHL additions.

The coach is not worried. Says Elias is making things happen on the ice and that the goals will come eventually, and also praises his decision to do the extra practice. "He is a real winner. That's what a winner does. Always pushing himself harder."

Btw, in the game against Norway EP had been demoted from first line center to second line RW. The reasoning was supposedly that both he and Nylander are puck hogs and that they'd be better off on separate lines. Elias is still running the first power play unit though, and quite successfully so. I think all three points have been on the PP.

Speculation is now that with Nylander/Wennberg/Hörnqvist functioning so well together, that line sticks and Landeskog will probably play with Pettersson. Could be interesting.

15 minutes into Sweden's game vs Austria they are ahead 5-0. This could be another blowout.

Petey assisted on the first goal by Landeskog.

That's a pretty nifty second line imho; Gabriel Landeskog - Elias Lindholm - Elias Pettersson.

So,three points for Petey tonight, finally free of that 1 ppg curse...

Landeskog was impressed by his teo new linesmates, the Eliases, and thought they are going to have s great time together. Really appreciated the assist from Petey on that first goal he scored.

These games like today, Per, can be good or bad. Good practice for offense, (sort-of) but man, can defense go to shit in a hurry.
And therein lies one thing I hate about IIHF Hockey. How does it go?
You gotta score as many goals that you can incase they are the deciding factor in a tie-breaker.
Must be a better way.

Yeah. They have expanded the tournament to include 16 teams to spread the gospel, so to say, but there aren't really 16 good hockey nations. Twelve would probably be more reasonable.

Previous years they had four groups of four, and then eliminated the worst team in each group, then merged two groups so the three best faced the three best of the other group, then quarter-, semi- and final.
The problem with this was that they had problems selling tickets for the mid-games, as they could not say which team faced which at what arena and when until the first part of the tournament was played. Thus they came up with this version. I don't think anyone is happy. Too many games end 8-0 or 9-1. I say get rid of four teams, have just twelve teams split in two six team groups. All of the good games will be there, most of the shitty games disappear.

Anyway, on May 21st there are two potentially great games; Canada vs USA and Sweden vs Russia.
And after that they move into the elimination phase with quarter finals, so the fun is about to begin!
