Sweden wins 6-5 after penalties. Entertaining game. Sweden had the lead 2-0, 3-1, 4-2, then the Czechs come back, tie it take a 5-4 lead, and then Sweden pulls the goalie and ties it in the last minute of regulation. Then ot and penalties. Sold out and enthusiastic Czech fans. Looks like this could be a fun tournament.

And Russia beat Norway 6-2.

They should re-designate this tournament the European Cup or something...I think it gets far more attention over there. Or maybe if they played it after the NHL playoffs.
I can't say I've ever cared to watch it even though its full of talent...

Taylor Hall had a hat trick to lead Canada in a 10-0 rout of Germany on Sunday at the world hockey championship.

Yeah, with the team they have this year, I would consider Canada huge favourites.
And if they win, Crosby will be #26 to join the triple gold club.

Surprised the US only beat Norway 2-1.
Sweden beat Austria 6-1.

Looking forward to the Sweden vs Canada game on Wednesday. Canada looks far better on paper, and their two games so far indicate that they're the real thing, but Latvia and Germany aren't really contenders, so the team hasn't really been tested yet.

Now you play the Czechs next, and then Sweden. Those two games will give a better picture of how well the coach has managed to gel the excellent parts into a team.

Sweden was robbed! :o
That was a perfectly legit goal by Loui Eriksson!
The score should rightfully have been 9-1 for us against Latvia.
Just 8-1? That's a joke! We were robbed!

I mean, sure, Loui still got a hat trick, but it really should have been four!

Wow! The US beat Russia 4-2! After having just barely won (2-1) against Norway.
Guess the Russian team isn't as good as I expected.
And the Yanks must have been jetlegged against Norway.

Canada should win, but the game has to be played first!
Canada's only weakness is in goal, imho.
Smith is decent enough on a good day, but isn't a consistent World class goalie.
Then again, guess the same goes for Enroth in our crease... :|

Btw, remember Rahimi? He's actually playing for Sweden in this tournament.
If the Canucks want to get bigger on the blueline.... maybe they still have his phone number?

How has the big brown Swede looked so far, Per? IIRC, his mobility wasn't the best, but he was never afraid to play the rough and tough style not characteristic on that side of the pond.

He was never the best skilled player, but he has matured and learnt to keep it simple, and using his big frame. He is now assistant captain on his SHL team (Linköping) and this is his second world championship.

This is what eliteprospects.com has to say:
"Rahimi is a large defensive defenseman. He generally plays a stay-at-home style and likes to punish opposing forwards physically. Gladly gets in front of and blocks shots. Owns decent mobility for a big guy." http://www.eliteprospects.com/player.ph ... lUgWo.dpuf

Tomorrow you can see for yourself how he measures up to players like Crosby and Giroux.

Absolutely! There was some debate over him not getting suspended for a vicious slash in the semi final series this spring, and he is a heavy hitter. Some footage:

Let's see if he can catch Crosby tonight!
