World Championship 2014

Well, no more Canucks game this season, so we might as well start the countdown to the world championship that will be held in Minsk this year and starts on May 9th. Good thing it's not in the Ukraine.

So, Bieksa will be going.
The Sedins won't, and neither will Edler.
Läck has expressed an interst, but there is a plethora of Swedish NHL goalies available (Enroth, Lehner, Fasth, Markström, Läck), especially if they want to hold on to a slot for Lundqvist, should the Rangers go own against Philly, so we'll see if he gets the call.

Who else? Jensen? Any of the Americans?

Reimer picked for Team Canada. You gotta be kidding. I wonder if Luongo gets asked?

Based on the players named to Team Canada thus far: Turris, Ellis, Ward, Brouwer, Gudbranson, Reilly, I'd say KB3 has a good shot at wearing the 'C' leading this youthful bunch next month.

Soooo...... in sticking with Canada's reluctance to have undisciplined players playing for the national squad Zack Kassian is overlooked despite displaying a bit more talent and touch than Alex Burrows who was chosen to the team. God knows 14 showed great judgement and discipline over the years balling about a referee, biting people, pulling their hair etc. Who picked this team Mike Farnworth ?

A lot of youth, but not looking very impressive.
They get to add six more though.
Probably waiting for first round eliminations.

Mind you, in an Olympic year most teams will have problems getting their best players to go to the world championships. It will mostly be the Olympic rejects wanting to prove they should have been on the Olympic team.

Seems like Hansen and Jensen will both be playing for Denmark.

Damn! Läck won't go. Some minor injury, he feels he could play anyway, but the Canucks' medical staff does not want to take any chances. :(

Too bad. I think it would have been a valuable experience for him.
Especially when you get to the elimination games.

Ya bummer. Apparently he was healthy enough to start 19 straight w/o the medical staff saying anything. Too bad there wasn't someone else in town who could've spelled him off the odd game here & there...

Could this be yet another Torts fuelled injuries from overusing players beyond reason?

Nice to see Reimer and Scrivens are back together.

I agree, too bad Kassian wasn't invited. He could certainly use the playing time.

You have to assume Bieksa will be captain.

There will be a Canucks goalie playing for Sweden. Joacim Ericsson will be going.
It's him, Nilsson from the Islanders and Linus Ullmark from Modo. Not the goalies I was hoping for, but on the upside it means that Joacim may get some quality ice time.

Nyqvist will also be joining the Three Crowns and Ovechkin will be playing for Russia.
