The Finns got this. 5-2 lead with two minutes on the clock. :drink:

Sweden beat Latvia 2-1.

The Latvians have had an exceptional tournament though. Huge loss against Finland (6-1) but then a respectable 5-2 loss against Canada (Canada beat Slovakia 11-1, the Czechs 5-1 and Finland 6-3, so 5-2 is basically on par with Finland and quite respectable), a shootout loss to Slovakia and then a 5-2 win against the Czechs. This meant they took third place in their group and reached the quarter final for the first time in WJC history. Once there they put up a really good fight against Sweden. And 16 of their players will be available for next year’s tournament! :D

Yes, I haven't been watching the games, but I've been checking the scores.

Latvia was predicted by the experts to be the worst team at the Worlds.

They did very well all things considered.

Yeah I watched bits of two games and Latvia took the Slovaks to a shootout and then lost to Sweden today by a 2-1 score.

What the flying f…?

Canada did their job against Switzerland, but the USA lost to the Czechs. Who saw that coming? :|
I mean, the Czechs got beaten - badly - by Latvia.

Oh, well. The semifinal seeding doesn’t seem to be following the brackets of the tournament, but some sort of ranking.
Canada will thus play the Czechs and Sweden faces Finland.

Finland’s special team stats are a bit odd.
They have a stunning powerplay efficiency 59.09%! :o
But an abysmal penalty kill… 45.45%

Let’s just hope they take more penalties than we do. :drink:

(Sweden’s figures are 53.85 and 92.86. Yeah, we play good defence.)

They re-seed after every round. Highest ranked plays lowest ranked etc.

I think they messed up with the time slots though.

Canada faces the Czechs in the early game, at 2 pm local time on a Friday, which translates to 10 pm in Sweden, whereas Sweden squares off with Finland at 6 pm local time, which is 2 am in Sweden and 3 am in Finland. Clearly everyone would have been better off if the Finns and Swedes played the early game, when it is still reasonable to be awake here, and Canada could have the 6 pm prime time slot instead of playing while most Canadians are still stuck at work.

Well, except the Czechs, of course, but they’re just lucky they’re still in this, so that’s moot. They’ll probably get slaughtered by Canada anyway, so the Czechs would probably be better off not watching. :drink:

Finland beats Sweden 1-0. Powerplay goal on a questionable too many men call. Sucks. :|

So it's Canada vs those pesky Finns again eh.

I guess I might watch that one.

Bronze for Sweden. Beat the Czechs 3-1.
I think Wallstedt will be our next great goalie.

So Lekerimakki really didn't show anything at this tournament other than the odd good play. How should we process this?

He was the youngest player at the tournament but you would love to see your newly drafted offensive scoring winger score at least one no?

We can maybe say he's not Connor Bedard but beyond that I think it's far too early to say.
