R1G3 - Canucks @ LA - 7pm - CBC, VS

Post by Cornuck »

Rome should be back - now we're out of excuses.

I'm going to go out on a limb and say that special teams could make the difference. 4 out of 5 goals from LA's power play - we NEED to stay out of the box.

As for the rest, LA changed their lines up in game 2 - and slowed us down. One thing about AV, he doesn't seem to want to adapt his game plan through a series - this could hurt us.

Not much else to say, except:

Baumer draws in. Alberts is out. Rome is a game time decision, if he's a go he'll replace Baumer.

lines look like

Edler-Salo
SOB-Erhoff
Bieksa-Baumer

And Demitra's on the 4th line now - and Rypper's out.

LINK
Demitra practised between Tanner Glass and Jannik Hansen, which at least gives the fourth line a centre. Winger Rick Rypien, who had been playing there, appears to be coming out of the lineup for Glass.

The new second line has Ryan Kesler between Mason Raymond and Mikael Samuelsson. Kyle Wellwood centres Michael Grabner and Steve Bernier on the third line.

If these are indeed the lines AV will go with, it should provide him the ability to roll all 4 lines more regularly.
Of course special teams could throw the lines out of whack with Sammy on the PP with the Sedins, Demitra on the point and probably Bernier on the 2nd PP unit with Kesler and either Raymond or Grabner.
We must reduce our penalties (and should with AA out).
I think it's imperative to throw the body around much more than in game 2.
Specifically, we have to target Kopitar, Frolov and especially Doughty. Keep dumping it in his corner and attack!

I like the new look of the lines - will be interesting to see if it pans out well. While I am a pretty staunch supporter of Burrows, I wonder if switching him and Samuelson around, should the Sedin line get stymied, might be a good move. I really like the speed of Raymond and he and Kesler have had pretty good chemistry while they have been playing together this year. Grabner definitely gives the third line that speed dynamic and maybe he, Bernier and Wellwood and find some chemistry.

I am pretty stoked to hear that Alberts is out. I would go with Suave or Baumer over him any day, but hopefully Rome will be able to suit up tonight. Looking forward to the game and to see if these changes make much of a difference.

One thing that bothered me a bit last game was how much AV was relying on our top two lines. The strategy that got us to where we are was rolling three lines and to switch that up now is, in my mind, not a wise decision.

Hopefully we see more of Edler the wrecking machine tonight.

I don't like it. Grabner is fast but Bernier and Wellwood are not. Put Samuelsson on the 3rd (or 2b) line with Wellwood and Demitra and Bernier on the 3rd. I always liked the speed of Raymond, Kesler and Grabner together. They didn't score a ton, but they generated chances.

So:

Sedin-Sedin-Burrows
Raymond-Kesler-Grabner
Samuelsson-Wellwood-Demitra
Hansen-Rypien-Bernier

Sedins with Samuelsson and Burrows with Kesler and Raymond also makes some sense. Either way, if LA keys on the Sedin line we need to get scoring elsewhere.

We have played LA reasonably well. First game was domination and LA was lucky to be in it. Second game was lost in OT.

????????????????????
Ok.. with AA out we might cut down a bit...But if its a physical game penalties are inevitable. Our PK has to improve. I think the line changes will improve our overall game.. defensively and on the PK .. we have stunk ( no Mitchell. no Johnson :( ) Luongo is due for a great game.. lets hope its tonight..

That's not true.
You can finish your checks and hit everything in sight (legally) without taking lots of penalties
Everyone has to play a little bit more like Edler did in game one.
He was credited with 6 hits and zero penalties.

I couldn't be happier with the tone the Canucks are setting tonight, so far in the first period. Clune and Smyth rocked by good clean hits, the Canucks are being physical and assertive, and are using their speedy forwards to unsettle the Kings defensemen on the forecheck.

I cannot see the Canucks losing this series if they consistently take it to the Kings. It's when they sit back and take reactive penalties that they can get in trouble.

Good first period - and of course - a PP goal for the Kings. I feel so much better not seeing Alberts.

btw - only the Kings could have a "Blackout" and then hand out white towels.

LOL Cornuck. Hard to have a "Blackout" when there is 4000 Canucks fans to colour the proceedings!

Okay, the refs didn't score any goals against the guys and the PK has only itself to blame for the score, but is IT TOO MUCH TO ASK FOR THE F*CKING REFS TO CALL A PENALTY AGAINST THE KINGS??????? F*cking defenceman puts a death-grip on Bernier's stick in the crease and not a whistle to be heard. Burrows gets mugged in the slot with the puck nowhere in sight, but Bettman decrees that Burrows is bad and the Canucks even badder and the whistles go in the pocket.

The guys shooting themselves in the foot is one thing. Having Bettman's refs pile on and do their best to nullify any chance of a comeback is something else.

f*ck me, but it looks like the fix is in.
