Re: GDT: Canucks @ Chicago - 5:30 - TSN, NHLN-US
The lack of finish still bothers - even after this win.
Grabner - that was an NHL goal.
Mitchell's hit - almost made me forget his performance in the Hawks series
Luongo - some nice saves, some big rebounds.
Are we going to win a lot of games with Bolduc and Rome in the lineup? All in all, it shows that we have the speed, but just don't know what to do with it. Too many times we would break and then just 'stop' about 5 feet in from the blue line (is that to let the other team catch up?) If the name of the game was getting the puck into the crease, we would win every game.
Hey it's a win and something to build on...
Agreed, Rypien would have looked good out there tonight.

At this point we have to take what we can get.
Impressed by Grabner and Raymond. The finish wasn't always there, but if these guys keep creating and getting chances the puck luck should follow.
Luongo, while not as busy, was the better goalie tonight. Niemi should have had both those shots, imo.
Byfuglien is a big pussy. You could read Bieksa's lips. The guy will not fight. I would put money on Rypien giving away the 80 pounds and still beating his gross face through the back of his skull.
Mitchell's hit was great. Some other NHL'ers should take note, he knew Toews was in a vulnerable position... and while he took the body, he didn't try to murder the kid. Good work Willie.
Wasn't necessarily pretty, but we deserved that win, and for a change we got it.

Before today I wondering who the hell was going to be able a bone crunching hit on our blueline? ....Mitchell answered that question loud & clear....like Ohlund before him though I just wish he could deliver it more often. We do have a major hitter who should be on the team but is down in Texas right now because his cap hit is a mill more than Rome's. Face it, cap limits is the only reason Rome is on the team ahead of Lukowich. I've seen Lukowich deliver wicked hits on a regular basis, shame he's not with us fulltime.Cornuck wrote:Are we going to win a lot of games with Bolduc and Rome in the lineup? Agree on Lukowich. Rome is trying, but he makes Shane Oh'Brain look good. Good hit by Mitchell, and I love that stuff but there will be payback. Also, I think big hits, like a steak, are almost better when they are rare. When you're lulled into a sense of complacency... wham. Besides that, Mitchell has been VERY solid. The rest of the D, not so much (other than Salo who is injured). Schneider will likely take Rome's spot in a few days/games (after game 10 I suppose).ClamRussel wrote:

I'm happy to see Grabner get a goal, because he had a pretty good evening on the offensive end and it is good he got rewarded. He set up Raymond a few times and easily could have had 3-4 points.

Thats a stretch... assuming Raymond can actually shoot ... Agree the line looked good offensively, but sucked defensively... All ended in the - .Grabner and Raymond have to do better defensively. Great hit by Willie.. All in all a decent team effort. They all looked like they actually cared ..Bernier has probably got my vote for " most improved "..I'm happy to see Grabner get a goal, because he had a pretty good evening on the offensive end and it is good he got rewarded. Did you hear the SOB has not been a minus player in any of the games so far
Also i would like to say.. TSN puts on a great show when they broadcast Canucks game. I wish they would cover more games.. I enjoy it more then CBC and Sportsnet

TSN sucks badly compared to both sportsnet and CBC. Did you not watch last year? They cut off the start of many of the Canucks games because it was a leaves Canucks double header. They wouldn't even split screen it. One went to a shootout in Toronto and they dumbly persisted in showing the zamboni going back and forth multiple times because the leaves were arguing the ice wasn't cleaned properly for the shootout, it took 10 minutes and all that went on while the Canucks game had already started, they could at least have shown the start or split screen it. Fact is they don't give a crap about the Canucks audience and it shows.
There's never any game analysis after the game, about 5 seconds after the clock reaches zero they end the broadcast so they can go to sports center and talk about the leaves or baseball or some other crap.
They never schedule the games properly so they start late or miss the start often and they cut off the end if you are recording the game on a pvr, you always have to add a half hour to the recording.
They do very little right and what they do is an annoying Toronto based crapfest.
Those guys on the "panel" babel on about stuff they know nothing about or that is just a waste of time, seriously why do you need four guys to blather on about useless crap. They spent almost all of last night talking about the hit on that Montreal player and whether he should have been allowed to play.
Ray Ferraro is the only semi interesting part of the entire broadcast.
I'll give you one thing the sound and picture quality was worlds above the Edmonton game on SportsNet the other day but that's about it.

I don't mind TSN as long as Chris Cutberth is calling the game. Gord and Pierre make me nauseous

Re: GDT: Canucks @ Chicago - 5:30 - TSN, NHLN-US
Anti-TSN feelings (for other good reasons) may be clouding your judgment on this Cardinal. I thought the Ferraro/Cutberth work had an obvious pro-Canucks bias. I was quite surprised. Sure it's a Canadian broadcaster, but most of Canada is closer to Chicago than Vancouver. I was expecting a more neutral stance. Having said that, I'm certainly NOT complaining! I can't comment on the panel stuff; I skipped it.
Game thoughts:
Edler: had one particular sequence where he took the hit from Byfuglien and held him off the puck while he cleared it out from behind the net. Shows good character, forethought, and strength.
Shots: 11-4 shots in favour in the second and even 1-1 in goals. Ack. We really continue to make road goalies look awesome.
Refs: what is the actual rule regarding fights started by the team that doesn't have possession? There really must be some sort of soccer-like 'advantage' call. All this assuming that the 'Hawks started the fight, of course.

Refs will put blame on Mitchell for the hit as the "start" regardless where this goes.
TSN even did a bit about leaves PRACTICE. leaves are winless and they are still god! They can finish with 1 point and they'll praise Burke because he secured a top 5 draft pick by willing to tank.(When in fact, he just sucked)
I still like Rome over SOB any day. SOB is going to have a bad penalty, a bad give away, and two other bone head mistakes every game. I don't like him. Did I mention I don't like SOB?
Still is BS how Mitchell gets a penalty for the hit and Phaneuf trying to kill Daniel in season opener wasn't one.
I can't wait till Phaneuf knocks some guy's career out and Bettman names an award for him. The love is just too much

1. Mitchell got a penalty for roughing (2 min) and Versteeg got 4 min, again for roughing. There was no penalty for the hit nor was there a penalty for fighting. The roughing penalty was after the actual hit. Chicago came out behind when penalties were assessed.
2. What does this have to do with the hit by Phaneuf ? IIRC, Phaneuf got his elbow up which should have been a penalty for elbowing (if anything). Either way, Mitchell didn't get a penalty for the hit nor did Phaneuf.
3. How can TSN praise Burke for getting a top 5 pick ? That trade goes to Boston in the Kessel trade.
4. I'll take SOB over Rome any day. O'Brien hasn't played that badly for a #6 (or now a #5). Rome is more mistake prone than SOB. Anyway, there is a good reason Rome will be in the press box or waived/sent down when Schneider is ready to play (which is probably after the Toronto game).

Wyshynski had to deal with "paraphrasing" earlier today as well. I guess it's just something that's fashionable.Jelly wrote:dr.dork wrote: Where to start where to start. Either you didn't watch the game or you had too much to drink.
