That is true.
However there have been at least 3 or 4 games under Boudreau where the team squandered opportunities by simply not showing up for the first period against bottom feeder opponents. I'm not laying this on The Bruce btw.
Boudreau has already said at least once that he can't figure out why this group has such a hard time being ready to go 100% at the first puck drop.
There's a culture issue here. But what is it?
We've seen this issue with the team going back a long time. It was a problem at times during the WCE era, and it carried over and was an issue during the Sedin-led team except for in the 2010-11 season. If I'm not mistaken the only carry over from the last era is our captain.....maybe there's something to the rumors of a rift between him and Miller. One is a fiery, emotional, leader who has pumped out numbers at over 1ppg since his arrival despite multiple instances of brain cramps that result in goals in the wrong net etc.....the other is a heavier playing version of a Sedin. Says the right things, doesn't drop the gloves, doesn't tend to scrum, likes to be all PC. Obviously this is nothing more than conjecture.
Still, as much as I liked Bo's game and his intensity in the playoffs, I have not been a fan of him as a leader since he defended the firing of Don Cherry by Rogers/CBC. Cherry may have been a dinosaur but, like him or hate him, he said nothing that was truly bigoted or deserving of that.

Yeah. He's gotta go. Big body, but that frame was directly obscuring Demko's view of the puck on 2 of the Flames last 3 goals. The giraffe gets in the way of his own goaltender as much as he does the attacking baddies.

Lots of upstairs goals on Demko the past 2 games.

Yup. Core is good. Pettersson starts next year like did these last few months, Miller another 90pts, Hughes takes another step, Demko continues to improve, etc. Bo comes back with fire. I already got Pods permanently penciled in the top 6/9 next season. Another year with BB.
Everything else surrounding them needs to be upgraded or tweaked by management. You can't toss out everything from this year because a lot of good stuff happened.

Warn them down about what?Cousin Strawberry wrote: ↑Sat Apr 23, 2022 9:43 pm Lots of upstairs goals on Demko the past 2 games.

Goal number 4 was a tough one. Demko didn't play it well, and he has looked slow and tired the past few games.....oooooh.....you meant worn down.
I'd agree with that. 64 games of covering bad warts. Hell, Carey Price landed in rehab after making Montreal look like they were a good team last spring. Maybe it's a blessing Demko isn't going to be called upon to do that beyond game 82.
One think I've noticed a bit about Demko on odd man rushes is that he tends to cheat away from the puck-side post more than he should at times. I'm wondering if that inconsistency is dependent upon who the lone man back is.....almost like he doesn't trust his defense to actually make the right play. Go figure eh.

Do you have another explanation for the continuing brain cramps that plague 90% of the team and the disproportionate number of whole team no-shows in opening periods? I'm open to ideas. As I said, my comment was conjecture.

Obviously there are no certainties in this life, especially when it comes to pro sports. However, when it comes to being as certain as one can get regarding performance expectations the only two names on the list for Vancouver next year are Hughes and Demko.....which, as a fan, is an unfortunate thing.Carl Yagro wrote: ↑Sat Apr 23, 2022 9:45 pm Yup. I really do hope Pettersson comes back next season the way finished the last month of this one. If he doesn't then I'm unhappily right about him and he should be traded quickly.
Expecting another 90 point season out of Miller might be a bit much. Expecting it beyond next season is a fool's errand.
Pods has been a real bright spot since the end of February.
