I'd say 1 shot on 4 powerplays was their downfall.
They weren't outplayed by 2 of the best teams in the league. But in terms of making plays, generating more dangerous offensive chances and finishing, they are far from the elite teams. We need our top players to all be at the top of their games at the same time to compete with the best.
Can't complain about compete level.

.
Notice... in case the regular Curse of Gomer might not be enough
... he sealed the deal by calling them the Rays shortly after starting the GDT:
Boudreau: "I liked the compete and thought we were much better than the other night. At the same time, we had opportunities. We had four power plays and we didn't get anything, that needs to get better."
Boudreau: "Lammikko's line was easily our best line. I thought they played great but they can't be our best offensive line out there. We need to get more production... but there were a lot of good things out there tonight"
Boudreau on moving EP to the wing: “He wanted to try left wing in the past. And I thought I was putting our top 6 forwards together and our bottom six forwards together.” He felt like he was close to a breakthrough & sounds like this will continue for awhile.
The effort level was generally good. The decision making in regards to play structure, not so much. Attempting low percentage plays for a good part of the game, however this did result in Tampa making their share of poor plays also. The game was very close. We have to improve that power play. Just nowhere near where it needs to be. The last 4 or 5 minutes of this game could have easily gone the other way.
