I’ve said this before
Lol he’s nothing like Stan. Other than their height.
So you're saying Hogs doesn't have heart? Is that what you're saying?
No. Just saying he plays nothing like Stan whatsoever.
So he doesn't play with heart then?
I’ll leave that to you. I didn’t say that. Seems to me you never watched Stan play if you thing they play similar. Maybe YOU didn’t watch the games. Smyl was a feared hitter and forechecker that backed down from no foe. Ask Bobby Nystrom. Or Barry Beck or Gary Rissling or dozens of other that he tattooed.

I like Nils... but he isn’t the physical beast Smyl was for the better part of a decade. I see more of a Brendan Gallagher type. Maybe Viktor Arvidsson.

Cherry Picker wrote: Wed Feb 17, 2021 9:54 pm Great game to get a lead and give Eriksson and Virtanen some decent minutes. Hopefully they can play their role well enough to contribute. Getting minutes will help develop some chemistry. No one line over-taxed this game. Bo’s and Petey’s lines both played really well today. Nice to see JT, Bo and Schmidt all score. They’ve all needed a confidence boost. It won’t get easier against Winnipeg.
Really helps to be able to use the whole bench. The defense looked better than it has since last year. Nat Schmidt was far better tonight.
Jordie Benn was effective. Juolevi had a motivated game as well and I'm glad Green is letting him play his full shifts with Myers. Best way for him to learn. He sure doesn't look lost out there. Even got a bit of attitude!
Your right, the Jets will be a different kind of challenge. More hitting.

Seems like razor-thin Olaf has been playing well and throwing his weight around against the Flames in the last few games

What took Green so long?

Yes they both have heart but stylistically Hoglander plays a much different game than Smyl did. Smyl was like a sledgehammer pounding the opposition all game. Hoglander is much shiftier.

Speaking of Smyl and his old uniforms. I don’t know what Calgary was doing wearing Canuck colours. There has to be some bad juju against them when they play the Canucks with those on. That is something even “I can see clearly now, the rain is gone.”

......Post Game chats with Horvat & Boeser / Schmidt & Holtby / Travis Green ...link
Horvat on what this win means, "We just want to keep building off it... It's nice to get rewarded for our chances... Marky stood on his head alot earlier against us... We've got alot of catching up to do."
--
Horvat on Hoglander: "Hogs has been awesome. Not only does he make great plays but he works hard... He's all over the ice. He's like a little waterbug out there... The sky is the limit with him."
Brock on top line improvement, "Just being closer to each other in the offensive zone... kind of working together and knowing where each other are... Earlier in the season we were too spread out... We were getting the puck and throwing it places"
Schmidt on Holtby, "You come in after a 4 game series and you need a big one from your goaltender...That was classic Braden out there tonight... He was laughing all the time and kicking the puck down the ice. He made a couple of really big saves when the game was tight."
--
Schmidt: "It was nice to just put one into their net for once... You talk about rebound control... Holts just called me old... You been around long enough these things happen... This game can beat you down in so many ways. It felt alot better to be on the other side of it tonight
Travis Green: Holtby and Ian Clark have worked hard the last 8 or 9 days here. We liked Demko’s game, so we went with him, but we always knew we would go back to Holtby at some point.
Hoglander is playing well. I like that he doesn’t get too far ahead of himself. He’s a worker. He doesn’t let up.
Our penalty kill didn’t get off to a great start, but they’ve battled back and been a lot better in the last 7-12 games

Yeah, his goal going post and in was a real kick in the pants to Petey's morale, he's been post and out all year (was leading the league).

Miller. Not a team guy.

Lol I love seeing all the Elders get bent. Bottom line is Olaf has a lot of catching up to do to his draft mates. I’m happy he’s finally made it. He looks like he may turn into a decent D man. He’s making baby steps- good to see. Hopefully he can pick up another gear or two with his skating and with his edges/pivoting. He’s going to need it. The physicality is a welcome surprise. He wasn’t very physical at all in junior.

Just had an intense talk with my Calgary cousin named Stampedepreet.

He gave me some good insight, and apparently a few flames fans are already panicking about the Markstrom contract.

This won't end well

Certainly a lot more than I was. Good for him. If he can develop into a decent two way D man that can play in all situations and play 20 minutes, it would be a massive development for this team. Like found money.

19 minutes last night and looked full value for the ice time. The Lames seemed to want to take runs at him all night so whatever he's doing is getting under their skin
