That would have made the Canucks better this season

... but what about a few years from now when Petey/Huggy are in their prime?

Patience is key.
We still have a lot of shitty contracts coming off the books over the next 2 seasons that would’ve off set the signings of Tanev, Markstrom and Toffoli

Markstrom - $6 million per
Holtby - $4.3 million per

Tanev - $4.5 million per
Schmidt - $5.95 million per

Toffoli - $4.25 million per
Virtanen - $2.6 million per

Markstrom, Tanev and Toffoli cost $1,825,000 million more per season than Schmidt, Holtby and Virtanen. Are you telling me we couldn’t have found a way to find that extra $1,825,000 million per. Very bad choice by Benning IMO
Term is the issue for Marky and Tanev.
Those figures are correct but that’s a one year thing like CP said it was the term...

There will be a lot of shitty contracts expiring over the next two seasons replaced with ELC type contracts

Schmidt has more term than Tanev
Schmidt is 29. Tanev is 31 and very injury prone.

Right and in 3 years Tanev, Marky, and Toffoli contracts will be bad contracts.

Yup. Marky's only been an elite goalie for a couple of years. 6 for 6 is a huge gamble, IMO. Would have re-signed Chris though.

I’m just glad he didn’t ruin his trade value by getting injured tonight.

Kinda like the hideous Sutter, Beagle, Roussel, Eriksson and Baertschi contracts have been since the day they were signed?

Difference is Toffoli, Tanev and Markstrom will likely provide value for a good chunk of those contracts to their teams. The five slugs have provided very little value to the Canucks.

Were we to drop the next two in Toronto and then come home and lose to Calgary I could see Mr Aquilini reluctantly making some changes. Seeing Gabby Boudreau make an appearance behind the bench in place of Greener at some point during the homestand would not be a complete surprise if the lopsided ass whuppings continue...

That was during a rebuild.

Marx, Tanev, and Toffoli will be anchors when Petey/Hughes are in their prime.

Big difference. :mex:

If we sign Markstrom 6x6we not only have him on the books past his expiry date we probably lose Demko. I'd love Tanev back but the term was suspect. The only one I really wanted back was TT and I wanted us to dump Virtanen. But in two years I would be clamouring for TT to be gone.

The drop off was inevitable but I didn't think they would look this bad. I mean they look bad.Not even close to looking not bad. They look like they have tuned out coaching. I have always supported Green but I think he has lost the team.
The only HW the Canucks need

Greener was philosophical after the game.

Quote: “The nhl is a tough league to win in. Give them credit that’s a good team over there”

“I thought it was actually one of the better games we’ve played so far”

“it’s hard to win in this league”
