Nice win. The Oiler's D is just awful, especially on the first Canuck's goal and Boeser's first goal - it was almost like a shootout situation - no D men, just facing a goalie.

Good job Rats
Good start for the boys. A bit rusty on both sides but good work keeping Mcdavid quiet all night

It’s for clarity, so you don’t get confused and think he means Huggy Bear.Madcombinepilot wrote: ↑Wed Jan 13, 2021 9:16 pm Every time the homer announcer says ‘Ethan Bear’ instead of just ‘Bear’, should be a drinking game.

Sportsnet's Ken Reid is practically orgasmic over Boeser's "pucks in deep" reference on the first night of the season

Is Hoglander the Swedish Stan Smyl?
DOYLE WOULD’VE RATHER HAD KEVIN HAYES AT 7 YEARS 7 MILLION PER INSTEAD OF J.T. MILLER FOR A LATE 1ST RD PICK

The interview with Travis Green on TV, he said "ya, think that could have been a penalty on Hughes there" Very polite of him.
We need Quinn to watch his own back though. After he shone so bright in the bubble playoffs, he's really going to have a target on him now.
When you have the captain of the other team trying to push the intimidation factor, You know your a star. And he is.

Somebody's got a helmet fetish (don't google that).Megaterio Llamas wrote: ↑Wed Jan 13, 2021 9:28 pm That CCM Tacks 910 helmet looks cool on Boeser.
The Bauer Re-Akt looking good on Motte...

Gonna be tough to accomplish that considering they paid McDavid and Draisaitl a quarter of their overall cap.Doyle Hargraves wrote: ↑Wed Jan 13, 2021 9:40 pmI agree. He quits on some plays on the defensive side of the game. All these years and the Oilers still haven’t found him a decent winger other than the German.Chef Boi RD wrote: ↑Wed Jan 13, 2021 9:38 pm McDavid is the human highlight reel but his overall game leaves a lot to be desired
Throw in Neal, Nurse, Larsson, and Koskinen, and you've burned up almost 50% of your cap space on 6 players.....and don't have a top-10 goaltender, nor a top pairing dman, to show for it.
They want McDavid to be Crosby, a guy who can ensure that almost any linemate he has will have a career year. The problem with that is McDavid's game is flash and dash, he's the most dangerous guy ever on the rush, but he doesn't have the possession and pass game that Crosby does. Once the game slows down as the defense sets up, he's not on the same level as Crosby when it comes to hockey IQ.
McDavid will probably play around 1400 games in his career barring losing entire seasons the way Sid has. So the guy will probably add around 1750 points to the Edmonton Oilers total contribution to the individual record books, but he won't bring them another Cup. There's also a chance that his career winds down early as many guys who play at that speed often have to hang up the skates prematurely due to injuries sustained, or they become less effective when their speed falls off in their early 30's.
Only the greats can compensate for that. For now, he's incredible to watch on the attack.....

He has WAY better hands than Smyl ever did.
