Calamity? Weren't you advocating not having playoffs at all and just getting ready for the 20-21 season.

Yup. Doubted they could do it without getting hit with positive tests.

Wonder if the NHL would have taken a couple of days off if the NBA hadn't.

It seems to me the point in the lads voluntarily postponing the playoffs is to keep the issue of police violence in the conversation so I don’t think this thread should be locked out of respect for the Canucks players choice.

By all means start a new game day thread when they resume but in the mean time, I support the players decision. It’s their call and I know it’s easy for me to say that since I agree with them, and I know some people here do not (Hey Doc.)

However, when people feel that there is an injustice and they feel that they cannot express their frustration then that is the road that leads to extremism.

These kids whom we marvel at their skill and courage have a voice too. I’ve never understood why celebrities, entertainers, athletes, artists etc should not be allowed to use the soap box they have.

We all do it. My soap box is a lot smaller but I use mine, doc used his, why should I begrudge one and not the other?

I may not agree with what you say but I support your right to say it.

My 2 cents

One of the most vilified men a America.

And rightfully so!
John Carlos and Tommie Smith were also vilified at the time, but are considered heroes today.

I'm sure the same will happen with Kaepernick.

Just look how the entire sports community is now following his lead.

This thread is sullied with political hooey and it has no place in a goddamn hockey talk chat. I will start another for Saturdays game.

Mods please lock this thread once the Chef has his say

Since the Chef hasn't chimed in yet, I'll get my two bits in before the buzzer. I have no problem with the decision and commend athletes for using their pedestal to take a stand, attempting to put pressure on the powers that be who sign the cheques and hold sway with decision and policy makers. Whether the motives for each individual athlete be altruistic or window-dressing or outright hypocrisy remains to be seen. Or maybe we'll never know. Who cares?

As for sports, they have always been political:

If people (particularly people of colour) don't feel like "dancing for the man", while certain segments of the population face a blatant double standard and are being continually beaten and/or murdered in the streets by those who are sworn to protect and serve, that is fine by me. If i have to wait a couple days (or not at all) to watch, what in the grand scheme of things is, a completely meaningless hockey game so be it. If it helps advance this issue one iota, then I think it's worth it.
