GDT: Canucks 'host' the mild - 7:30pm Aug 2 G1

Post by Cornuck »

A game day thread in August?????

Well - here we go - a taste of the playoffs for the kids and time to see what they're made of. Who will step up? Who will fold? Will the vets flip the switch and show the kids what it takes to pursue the greatest trophy in sports?

GO CANUCKS GO!

What Class room do you have the television set up in? Room 301 on the 3rd floor east wing? Are you working out your lineups on the chalk board?

Why the Wild will lose:
Goaltending, goaltending, goaltending. Alex Stalock picked things up at the end of the season, but he faced 78.3 goals in 38 games this year, and gave up 97. That’s about a half goal per game you can spot Vancouver, right there. And Dubnyk was radioactive, giving up a whopping 93 goals on 62.7 expected goals against. Their best shot in net might be Kaapo Kahkonen, the AHL Goalie of the Year. But will Dean Evason be willing to upset the apple cart in a veteran locker room on his first days as the full-time head coach? Hard to imagine, but it’s hard to imagine Minnesota’s veteran goalies outshining Jacob Markstrom.

Series Prediction:
Vancouver in 4. Minnesota plays competitive games, but even if the Wild defense limits chances, Elias Pettersson, J.T. Miller, Brock Boeser and company can make the most of them. Especially against Minnesota’s goalies.

Ultra conservative. Well, the game is televised at 7:40 pm, Pacific time on all Sportsnet stations except SNT one.

Yes - chalkboard sessions start one hour before game time in the Home Ec room. The dogs are very good listeners.

I'm going 4-2 with an empty-netter for our boys. Petey, Miller, and Ferland - with Pearson getting the EN.

I'm going 2 - 0 final score for the canucks.

Grinders scoring...Sutter and maybe Motte. Pretty goals dont happen against stingy defensive teams so itll be whoever wants to go to the blue paint

Anticipation has been growing since the players arrived back here so FINALLY a game that counts. Not good with the game to game stuff but I'd be pretty disappointed if the Canucks lost the series and expect they'll take it in 5 after a very tough battle.

Would be surprised if Green sat Virtanen and they'd be better off with him and Ferland on the 3rd line, bumping Roussel down to the 4th for Sutter. Roussel can kill penalties, he played the pk in Dallas.

Exactly what I've been thinking since the early start of the season.

Virtanen is competent on every line so he can add a dimension to the 4th. But he did break out with 18 goals and 36 points with limited ice and almost no PP time.

If the last game showed anything, they need all the goals they can get and Marky has to stand on his head. The top lines better be ready to grind because they're not going to get their way and receive tons of PPs. It's playoff hockey now.

Sutter has forks sticking out of him.

10-0 Vancouver
Markstrom with the winning goal
Over the Internet, you can pretend to be anyone or anything.

I'm amazed that so many people choose to be complete twats.

Markstrom has to be at his best. We give up chances. That wont change. Really will have to fill the net so to speak because the last thing we want to do is get in to a rough and tumble scrum.
I'm guessing each game will be very different in coaching tactics.
