Virtanen - is a simpleton
Goldobin - needs to keep it simple
If neither scores Jake plays better D, is faster, and sometimes crushes people.
Goldobin nada.
I imagine Jakes brain has similar machinations as Homer Simpson’s brain.

Who stole Jake's brain. Where is it. Isn't here.
Green has given him so much hard love for 3 years, he'll probably get to stay, yikes.
More bad penalties/penalty.

Great to see the Hockey Gaud with another beaut pass. At first, I thought it was a bit lucky/flukey, but Garret mentions he does take a look over his shoulder. Boy, if Gaud can see the ice like that more often than not and consistently bury the puck like he has been doing, he's going to take BoHo's #2C spot. :D

Nice to see the Zack Attack Pack McEwen finally get one. Prob a lil too late though to earn a spot, as we have a shit load of forwards right now.

Post game; Adam Gaudette / Post game; Travis Green

There are at least four (conservative estimate) guys Gaudette has outplayed for a solidification on the opening night roster on this squad.

Interesting approach to the last preseason game by the coaching staff. A lot of situational and role play was being tested. I got the feeling decisions have been pretty much made and it was a case of testing those decisions.

Lots of 5 man unit play, Beagle line with Hughes/Biega, Pettersson line with Chatter/Breezeby in the 1st.
Pettersson line with Hughes/Biega, Beagle with Meyers/Edler in the 2nd.

The number of penalties through a bit of a wrench in things but notably Gaudette on the PK held his own.

Penalties also hurt Jake. His line mates were the key PK players but he 's not on the PK. It meant he sat on the bench through the PK and didn't get on the ice until 3rd shift after the penalty expired. He reminds me of a young Jannik Hansen who isn't sure of his role and hence looks lost. Last night it appeared he was asked to bring some offensive threat to the Beagle line so he was first to blow the D zone but either didn't get the puck or couldn't handle it when it did come out to him. Ended up, he looked horribly out of place. Frustrating after he, Rousel and Sutter had such success as a checking line early last season. I'm not keen on giving up on Jake, but he's being passed in the lineup and better find a role somewhere. Ferland, Miller and Pearson have filled the top 9 roles he was pencilled in for earlier in his career. Note one late shift (may have been because of a late change) of Gaudette, Goldobbin, Virtanen.

Hughes looked bad when forced to play D in his own zone. Aggressive forecheck was his nemesis. He's going to have a love hate relationship with the forwards. They will love his puck movement up ice, but hate being force to cover for him on the odd man rushes given up during his offensive forays.

I have a good laugh when people talk of a good prospect being the 1st call up. That is often the guy who sits in the press box as the 13th forward or 7/8 defender the team has been carrying hits the ice.
