Schenn has been good, but JB really has to assess how to make that jump into playoff contention next year and I don't believe having both Schenn and Biega playing big minutes here is a good thing. I'm not saying they shouldn't sign Schenn. We should only have one of them.

I'm ok with Schenn being the 7th/8th, but he can't be in the lineup for 82 games. So protection has to start coming from elsewhere and/or our young guys have to start sticking out elbows.

THIS OT IS LIT!!! Petey/Brock/Hughes
No one can enforce for “every single instance” of “every single game.”

I agree that JB has to figure out how to get into playoff contention next year but I disagree that having Schenn as their 6th dman for 82 games would somehow diminish the probability of that. And if they do make the playoffs, all the more important to have a guy (or guys) that have the grit that Schenn does. In addition to his enforcing, his ability to clear space in front of the net is also a positive.

I don’t have an issue with losing Biega even though I can’t help but root for him.

Agree re. OT. Those 3 on the ice at the same time is a party for the eyes. Looking forward to seeing more of that next year.

Also agree that there needs to be more protection and grit in addition to Schenn.

An actual hockey game broke out.
I;m really, really not worried about our goaltending.
Petey got his swagger back.
Hard to believe the Blues were able to get that many point. They are toast in the first round.

I deliberately used "every single instance" of "every single game" because it was extremely unfair for the media and fans to pile on Gudbranson but praise Schenn for the exact same thing?

Agree to disagree on 82 games for 7th or 8th D. We've seen that for too long around here. Huge pressure on JB to finally fix this thing. That means a true #1 right side D to move everyone else down. At this point, I feel this team needs Tanev more than they do Edler.

At the end of the day, we can agree we all want this team to take the next step. So it's all good, man

Demko had a fantastic game. Deserved to be named one of the stars.
Marx could not have done better. In the game. In the shootout I missed his experience.
But Demko will get there.

The Blues are the oldest active NHL team never to have won the Stanley Cup. 1967 is a date that reminds of something, mm?
Oh ya, wrong thread. of "All Things"...

Tanev is getting to the point where you can count on him for 50 games. In fact he's played 150 games over the past 3 seasons, so it's exactly 50 that you'll get.

Edler is not exactly an ironman streak candidate, but he will will give you 65 games.....and probably more if he isn't forced to play 25 minutes per game. He was 11th in the league this year in TOI/GP. Tanev played 20 minutes and change, good for 92nd among dmen.....so that's barely top 3 per team.

Watching them play Edler is not showing the miles that are on him the same way Tanev is. Edler contributes in all areas of the game, Tanev is an own zone specialist.

While I totally agree with you that this team needs a true #1 RSD, Tanev is definitely NOT that.

At this point I really don't think anyone can say that this team needs Tanev more than Edler.

Stecher may have improved over the season, but I'm not sold on him being top-4, especially not with who his partners would be. He wasn't great riding shotgun with Edler, Hutton and him would be one of the softest pairings in the league.....although mobile, and It would be a shrimp duet to put him with Hughes.

On the RS the obvious choice is to go hard after Karlsson. But to do that Sutter and Spooner need to go with next to cap return coming back.....and let's face it, it's a July dream for most teams.

Then you can entertain keeping Tanev and trading Stecher.

Edler - Karlsson
Hutton - Tanev
Hughes - Schenn

I'd still prefer to move Tanev out. I would talk to Winnipeg at the draft and see what could be done in exchange for Myers with a deal in place for the big man first obviously.

Edler - Karlsson
Hutton - Myers
Hughes - Schenn

Leaves room for Hughes to move up into the top-4 and displace Hutton while keeping him with a physically stronger partner.

Brock Boeser: "I’m already excited for next year."
Bo Horvat: “We’ve got a bright future ahead us.”

Pretty much sums up sentiment among Canuck players.

I've been really impressed with Boeser's overall game this past month or so. He has been back checking, forechecking and has been hard on the puck. He's driving to the net more and his passing has improved. He's shown that extra gear in his play. His defensive play, which may always be his weakness, an area he has to stay focused upon, has also been far more consistent. The next step for him is to show up to camp ready to go.

I really like what I see from Rafferty. There were few shifts where Green had him out there with Hughes and they really controlled the O line. The battle for the right side next year may be a fun one to watch adding in that Woo is getting some games in Utica so he may come to camp ready to take a job.

Goaltending won't be a problem for us for the foreseeable future.

We have a lot of options on D.

Left
Hutton
Hughes
Juolevi
Sautner
Brisbois
Teves
Edler
Trymakin in a year

Right
Stetcher
Biega
Tanev
Schenn
Woo
Rafferty

Still a lot of decisions on the backend but some depth. Benning has his work cut out for him to figure out the right compliment. If he adds I hope he doesn't just add for the sake of it. If we could depend upon Tanev and Edler to each play 70+ games they would be the best option for next year rather than just add. But if its time to move on from one or both then I hope he can land a big name guy, big minute guy, or two. Even though we have depth we don't have much in the way or top 2 Dmen, outside of Hughes in a couple of years.

Up front we've also come a long way. We still need 2 top 6. I like Bo/Pearson and Pettersson/Boeser. I don't depend on Baertschi right now and Goldobin didn't seize the day. Two more top six wingers would be nice but id settle for one. I don't see anyone in Utica that's going to step into a top six next year but I'm open to being surprised.

Bottom six we have a ton of guys and Green should be able to ice a bottom six without difficulty.

I'm excited already for next season.

But I mean it. Demko wowed me during the game.
St Louis looked so much better than the Canucks, but Demko kept us in it.
Big save in overtime, and various big saves in regulation.

Then the shootout. Two shots, two goals. Meh.
I blame inexperience.

Shootouts are different than real games.
More of a mind game. Demko needs to get better in that area.
But hey! During regulation and ot he was awesome! 8-)

Mëds, just to clarify... I feel Tanev has more value to this team right now because of how much weaker the right-side is to the left-side.

Without Edler, the left side won't be as dire (but only if Juolevi stakes a claim). The right side without Tanev forces everyone to move up and we've seen over the years how bad it truly was.

I do agree with you that Tanev can no longer be 1st pairing (Edler too) due to his unreliability and the fact his analytics has regressed in the last 2-3 years. Also, I'm much more comfortable with Stecher on the bottom pairing.

We still definitely need a big-minute #1 right-side D, but if you move Tanev (not saying JB shouldn't) then you need two top-4 right-side D to keep everything in balance.

Whatever the plan, this is a huge year for JB and crew and they must get this right. They must move some placeholders and replace them with higher quality options to help this new young core to the playoffs.

I think everyone is really excited to see what's going to happen next season.
