Vanek just isn't that good of a passer, plus he's slow and lazy. For every good play he makes, he causes twice the bad turnovers. If Brock and Gagner don't work as hard as they do, this line would be exposed even more.

This is exactly why you don't give Vanek a long-term contract at this stage of his career and this is why every team pumps him up and dumps him for as much as they can get.

I like parts of his game but don't get fooled. Sell high on this guy. He's the ultimate placeholder.
