I wasn't expecting much from this game. But I'm pleasantly surprised so far.
Nice tempo to cause chances and draw penalties. Not planning a parade, but things look good 40 minutes into the season.

Blob Mckenzie wrote:Yeah they went at least one too many on the ufa this summer. Each signing is decent on its own but there is little to no room for kids to crack the team. More likely it's Elmer trying to save his own skin in year 4 of a 5 year deal. I think it's playoffs or bust for the Aquilinis.
No room? You do realise that it's only the first game and the team is virtually injury-free.

Just got home. Going to watch the game now. Is it true that Markstrom has more points than both twins combined?

haha wohooo!!!

I think the depth actually helped vs the Oilers, whom we beat twice in a row now, preseason/regular season.

Lol! Derek Dorsett, first star of the game.

Gets an uncredited assist and more importantly, made McDavid take more cheap shots than actual shots.

Yeah, depth is not having to play Megna and Chaput!

I'm happy. I mean really f'n happy.
Haven't seen line matching like that in a long time with the Canucks.
Real solid checking line of Granlund, Sutter, Dorsett.
Granlund just rocked this game. He has great anticipation.
Green is off to a fine start.
The defense on this team looks pretty solid.
Transitions out of the zone were night and day compared to last year, much quicker.
If they keep playing like this all year, I'll enjoy watching whether or not they make the play-offs.

Feeling pretty good about having picked up Horvat for my yahoo fantasy team! 8-)
15 years in the same pool, and this is the first season that I don't have a Sedin on the team.

I was just about to pick up Daniel, somewhere in the second half of the draft, but somebody beat me to it, and then Henrik went right after that. Oh well, guess it's transition time.

Horvat and Markström are my only Canucks and they did good tonight! :drink:

A well deserved win. A real stinker by Markstrom on the first goal but he more than made up for it the rest of the way.

Our D was fairly solid all game. Not a lot or running around. It's going to be a long night some nights with the way Green wants the D to activate in the O zone. It will be fun, exciting and lead to more scoring. But it is also going to lead to a lot of odd man rushes against. Tonight they guys were covering well for each other and no glaringly stupid pinches.

Up front we did run 4 lines. I admit I cringed each shift the Sedins were out there. It won't be like that every night but it will be when up against a speedy team. I like Eriksson with Horvat and Baertschi. Virtanen, Gagne and Burmistrov was also a good line. And our checking line of Sutter, Granlund and Dorsett was our beast line.

A solid performance. Fast, upbeat, hard on the puck and capitalized on our scoring chances. Our PK was pretty solid. Our PP may have only managed one goal but it looked good, A N D Horvat anchored the first unit.

Game one in the books. And Ya, I can see Hutton platooning with Pouliot in the not so distant future.

One more thing, Bo knows!!
