Sad really.

They're afraid to "BELIEVE" again because they've been let down so many times.

Yeah, they were mocked and called fools for believing in a team that failed.

And soon they'll be mocked and called fools for NOT believing in a team that SUCCEEDS.

The former was bad enough, but the latter will be unbearable.

Sucks to be them. :mex:

I liked the team st Louis put together for a couple of years but if you get swept by last year's Canucks you're not winning the cup.

Tonight just felt like the kind of game Bieksa excels at. I loved him getting into it with Backes and that back check was a beautiful effort. He had many other pinches that led to quality chances.

I don't like Bonino on breakouts. I notice quite often he one touches passes from dmen or wingers straight to the opposing d man.

I liked dorsetts game tonight as well. He had a great forecheck tonight and disrupted many breakouts.

I love it when the Sedins get possession on the PK. They rag the puck around like they don't have a care in the world and the opposition tends to avoid pressuring them.

Why can't Vey learn the NHL game and get pp time ? He is not a top 6 forward ATM and May never be . However he has good hands and is good on the pp . Would fans rather have a scrub like Sestito in there ? Perhaps they miss Jeremy Welsh .He is kid FFS . He is at least contributing to the team .

I can't disagree Blob but he was just plain bad on the 4th line. A 4th line of Vey/Dorsett/Hansen just doesn't seem like a 4th line. Then again maybe I'm just used to goons who can play 3-5 minutes a night on the 4th line. Having both he and Vrbata on the PP sure gives us a different look.
The only HW the Canucks need

The pp first unit has looked decent . He seems to hVe given the twins more room to fire the puck around with Vrbata . I hVe issues with his game as well but he is putting up some points so wtf so far

I think part of the problem is that the gritty/checking forwards just don't have the hands/heads to make best use of the skills players like Kassian and Vey bring to the table on the bottom six lines. But then does it make sense to make another skill line like Kassian-Vey-Hansen in your bottom six? Maybe it's just chemistry, but it just seems Kassian and Vey's efforts are being wasted in the bottom six.

I think a guy like Kassian has the physical tools to fit in on a bottom-6 line and play that role. Vey seems like a small child, ill-equipped for the dump and chase and cycle game.

Looks good on the PP, and it's not like we have a huge list of alternatives right now. I'm thinking that, when he's healthy, Horvat slides into Vey's spot. Plays some bottom-6 minutes at even strength and gets a look on the special teams. I can definitely see Sestito hitting the waiver wire.

Vey would have been a good player in the pre-dead puck era of hockey where terms like 200 foot hockey didnt exist. The game is so tight now, you gotta roll 4 lines now, all forwards have to have to pay attention to D, be strong along the boards, able to protect the puck, maintain possession while there is 250 lb gorilla on your back. There is no room out there. Perimeter players like Vey need room, hence PP specialist a la Kyle Wellwood. These players stink 5 on 5. You are essentially playing with 11 forwards, 5 on 5 with players like Vey in the line-up. The kid is so not suited for bottom 6 duty and not good enough for regular top 6 duty. Horvat will eventually prove to be the more valuable cause Bo is good on face offs and is excellent at the 200 foot game and is stronger. You can bounce Bo anywhere around the 4 lines, eventually, at centre, he won't hurt you. Bo's ceiling is much higher than Veys st centre. Veys problem is he can't play wing and is not affective in the bottom 6

A few comments;
After possibly his worst game of the season, Higgins bounces back with a steady effort and Bonino finally finds the top corner. If he can consistently hit the net on those he'll be invaluable.

Has Burrows regressed to the point of sitting in the box for a bench minor?

Dorsett is a costly plug. Costly on the scoreboard.

Spidey never goes to the fridge or bathroom until after the Moores suit commercial.

Vey's goal is precisely why he is on the PP. Phil Esposito made a career out of that spot on the ice. The Canucks have missed a release like that since pre injury Naslund. If a defender goes out to him, the cross ice pass to Verbata. Dropping the backside forward may be the answer but that opens up the backside defender to follow to the high slot.

As for Vey's fourth line role, I don't see him doing much good, but I don't see him doing much bad either. He's learning and in the long run, that will be good.

May be too early, but watch how much line matching Willie does. Appears to me, very little as the fourthline often is on against the opponents top line. Either he doesn't care and is more concerned with rolling four lines or he is being schooled.

I am pleased to see the Sedins on the PK.

I don't get the hate for Vey. The guy is Kassian's age, has played way fewer NHL games, and people are ready to write him off as what you see is what you will always get?

Admittedly I haven't watched most of the games that closely, but I haven't seen him do that much harm in his 14 mins per game either and his shot is fucking awesome. That release...no double or triple clutch like Burrows, Higgins and Hansen. If Henrik or Daniel Sedin had that release they'd have 1,200 points by now.

In six games he has put up 4 points. Who would you rather in the lineup? Tom Fucking Sestito?

In the long run I see Vey more as a scoring winger who may need to be sheltered somewhat as in he won't get as many defensive zone starts in critical situations.

Topper mentioned yesterday how he'd like to see a young player or two in the lineup getting valuable NHL experience and starting to work their way up the depth chart. I think that applies to Vey.

About that game...

Miller was awesome. Really nice to see him have a great bounceback game. Tonight it's time for Eddie to bounce back from that ho-hum effort against Tampa on the weekend.

That transition from the great left pad save by Miller to the Bonino goal was a thing of beauty. I must have watched it five times.

I thought a couple times the one who got away (Berglund) was going to take the lead for the Blues, but Miller made two very good saves.

Sedins started nearly all of their shifts in the offensive zone, which means the Matthias-Richardson-Kassian line got the raw end of the deal and started most of their shifts in the defensive zone against St Louis best players.

Pretty shocking to look at the player's ice times from last night and see Hank Sedin only played 14:40. What a difference from Tortorella, eh?

The long run Vancouver spent killing penalties obviously was a factor.

Definitely. Early days and a small sample size, but overall Hank is playing 90 or so seconds less per game than last year.

Vey is a minor upgrade over Wellwood. At least, Vey is not fat... There is a reason why the Kings let him go for a second rounder in a weak draft. No doubt, Vey has his flaws. However, Vey is still young. He might improve his defensive game.

When Horvat returns, who will be the one sitting in the press box? Right now, it seems like the prime candidates are Vey and Hansen.
