Canucks buy Peoria Rivermen - AHL

Re: Canucks buy Peoria Rivermen - AHL
Saskatoon is still a long way to the next closest team. I think the point of having 5 teams in the west is to cut down on travel.
Being Calgary's farm team was used as an excuse for the Heat dying but Im not as convinced. A lot of people boycotted as well due to the deal the owners signed with the city. Basically guaranteed a certain level of revenue that was never met. I think attendance would be better if the Comets were there but i dont think it would be the slam dunk that others do. Tickets were expensive compared to the other options of WHL and BCHL. People forget its arguably the 2nd best hockey league in the world.
I think the real reason is because supporting sports at any level just isint part of our culture/lifestyle the way it is in other places.
Support for the Canucks (in the form of ticket sales) has plummeted as soon as they started to struggle. Lions have always been a tough sell. Whitecaps get lots of good publicity but seldom sell out even the lower bowl. Giants avg about 5,000 which is about the same as Kelowna, Red Deer and Spokane.

Yes, or even Seattle/Tacoma until they get an NHL team....black ace wrote:Abby still doesnt have a tenant but I would think it would be in California somewhere. Possibly Portland Oregon ?

Vegas has no ice. The Wranglers just officially folded as they had nowhere to play.
Orleans Arena holds 7500 - is that enough for an A team?

Doing some googling of Cali rinks - who put the palm trees in Kerisdale?

Toronto Marlie's arena holds about 7,500
St. John's Ice Caps arena is about 6,800, while the Utica arena can only squeeze in about 4,000

Pretty much, according to hockeydb.com. The average attendance for 2014-15 is 3,718, 23rd in the AHL.Lancer wrote: But do even close to 4,000 fans show up at any game in Utica??

I'd love to see the Canucks AHL team in the Key Arena in Seattle - and test the waters for professional hockey in the Emerald City. Interest & sponsorship should be good, and an easy bus ride for call-ups

Don't you just hate those buses that can only cruise at 30km/h?cfp wrote: "Hey kid, here's your first chance at the NHL! Oh btw you have an eight hour bus ride ahead of you!"
I think someone on the Canucks could drive down, pick up the call-up, get a BJ, have a nice lunch, and be back in Vancouver in under 8 hours if their farm team was in Seattle!
