Well that’s just it. What he did back then was allowed. It’s a shame that the dropyourgloves.com site is gone. It was a far more accurate gauge of fights and and how many fights guys were actually in. Had vide for pretty much every fight ever.

ESQ he certainly wasn’t afraid to fight anyone and had some real heavyweight battles in his day and as a rule unless you were a no talent thug you generally fought a fair bit less as you got further into your career. Guy is a HHOFer and yes he was a mean cunt but I would have taken him any day. Wendel Clark and Cam Neely probably had just as many “dirty hits” back then. It was a different time.

I’m a Stevens fan, he was tough as nails in the era of concussions hockey. I love the skill side of the game today, no clutching, grabbing impeding non puck carrying players, slashing etc., but I hate the friendliness between teams, that to me is the bigger issue. No sport plays as many international tourneys than hockey except soccer but there are more soccer leagues and players in the world than people. There is more hate between baseball teams than there is between hockey teams. It used to be the other way around. You need to figure out how to create rivalries again, more divisional play. I don’t know why people get their panties in a bunch “i want to see Crosby!” Whaaaa. Games against the other conference teams I find to be lifeless

Just remember who's job or was to direct the rush to Steven's blind side hits.

Stevens was waaaay more than a cheap shot artist. He was a top pairing star on a multi cup dynasty.

Yes he was a piece of shit with a heart of coal but was he ever an effective physically punishing defenseman

BS! :eh:

Most sports have loads of international play, except for baseball and gridiron, that hardly anyone cares about outside of North America.

Cricket, field hockey, basketball, rugby, volleyball, tennis, table tennis, handball, futsal, bandy, floor ball... they all have international events, and most of them on a yearly basis. Hockey is no different than the others.

Ah yes, a time where a shoulder to the head was considered a good clean hit.

I absolutely loved to watch Mr Stevens play the game of hockey back in the day.

You are correct sir!

It turns my stomach to see players today laughing and joking with the opposition on-ice.

And then they get together afterwards for dinner and drinks.

I'd say he was both - star dman and a cheap shot artist.

Imo he took the cheap shot to an extreme that Clark and Neely never matched - and as great as Stevens was, he ended careers of more-skilled star players.

There is a great deal of blame on the league, because Stevens was within the rules of the day, but at the end of the day Stevens had a level of malevolence and intent to hurt that I don't respect and don't want in the game.

But that's just me, I respect the differing opinions of y'all.

You're probably referring to Lindros and Kariya.

Yeah, that's more of an urban myth buds.

Stevens retired 3 years before Lindros and 6 years before Kariya.

Who did more damage to Eric's brain... Stevens or Kasparitis?

And who did more damage to Paul's brain... Stevens or Suter?

Sure, Scotty's hits always had the potential of ending careers... but did they?

Whatevs, targeting the head was perfectly legal in those days.

Stevens was an asshole, but assholes were winning you Stanley Cups!

Lindros was sort of an asshole himself, but more of a giant punk in my books.

It's also debatable which of the three was "more-skilled"...

True, that level of malevolence doesn't fit in Today's game, but once upon a time... :D  :D

Football is a game where you use your feet to handle a spherical object (aka a ball).
If you don’t believe me, ask the English, who invented the language you use.

Gridiron (or American football) is a less exciting version of rugby where you have removed the no forward pass rule.
It has less than half the fan base of professional table tennis, and roughly one ninth of the fan base of actual football.
