No way Guds signs 4.5 for 6

Why's that BoS, are you thinking more or less?BladesofSteel wrote:No way Guds signs 4.5 for 6
A defensive specialist only has so much leverage, most comparables are putting up much more points, the best comp I can find is Hjalmarsson @ $4.1M per, next is Tanev @ $4.45M per.
So yeah in between those would suffice, I guess I was just taking into account UFA years, & remembering when Hamhuis got $4.5M per when he signed here as a UFA.
Can the Canucks just win a Cup within the next 5 years.

You're talking about a GM that pays a 3rd line centre 4.4 million , a number 6 damn 3.6 million and a 4th line slug 2.65 million . I'll be thrilled if Ignitowski can get him for that price. He isn't exactly known as a shrewd negotiator, though the Tanev and Baertschi contracts are ok.BladesofSteel wrote:No way Guds signs 4.5 for 6

We're paying Horvat 4.4 and Trymakin 3.6?!??
When did I miss that?!??

Two things Guds has that your two examples don't boast, nastiness and Captain potential. While it's hard to put a number on these qualities, they are something every team desires on their blue line, and moreover Vancouver sorely lacks.SKYO wrote:Why's that BoS, are you thinking more or less?BladesofSteel wrote:No way Guds signs 4.5 for 6

Granted, there aren't too many Gudbranson comparables throughout the league. But if he should take the next step in his development this year and establish himself as a dominant shut-down force, he could prove to be a real challenge to re-sign as a result of his unique abilities.
D-man come at a premium in the NHL today, and DD in Detroit just raised the bar for above-average top 4D.

I was jerking your chain.
I was saying that we are paying Sutter 4.4 as our second line Center. We are paying the correct amount for a second line Center, but the debate should be are we paying the correct person
And I think we can all just agree that we are paying Sbisa about a million too much.
(But like I said, I was just poking da bear.. Sometimes it's entertaining to have you go off about that contract -- and its summer and I am bored ✌)

Re: Around the league (signings, RFAs injuries)
Skyo, I have had similar thoughts with Bo. Lock him up early, and relatively cheaply, and if he's still a stud in 8 years, he can be extended. I like it better than a bridge contract, and then an 8 year extension that takes him to 33 or 34, where he may or not be worth it for the last few years of the contract.SKYO wrote: But I think for Horvat, maybe JB/TL might think about getting creative with Bo, with two options, either go long term 8 years @ $5M-$5.3M ish (taking him to 30 years of age) or bridge him 2-3 years (as I believe a 4 year contract next season would bring him to UFA).
With how Bo Horvat plays and how pro he is, I think this is the only time I think a 8 year contract would be a wise move long term for the Canucks.
The Cup is soooooo ours!!!!!!!

Give him 2 years. Takes him to 23. Then extend 8 and reassess at 31.Tciso wrote:Skyo, I have had similar thoughts with Bo. Re: Around the league (signings, RFAs injuries)
Since it's summer and everyone goes crazy, here, I'll show you crazy;
I would like to see the league return to 2 year EL.
I would like to see the league put a maximum term of 5 years on all contracts,(no home town extra year).
I would like to see the league put a max hard cap of 8 million per year, including bonuses, no matter how great the player is. (re-evaluate every 3 years).
I would like to see the league abolish the NMC.
I would like to see the league only accept limited NTC. (player must have no less than 8 teams he would accept a trade to which he could change once a year).
I would like to see the league abolish ALL waiver rules that restrict teams from sending players to the AHL for conditioning, re-hab from an injury or simply because they are sucking right now. (Teams could still expose players on waivers if they wanted to).
See, Ya-all thought Mick was crazy and you were right!
I'm crazy, man. CRAZY, CRAZY, CRAZY!!

Re: Around the league (signings, RFAs injuries)
Only problem with that is his ELC expires when he's 22, so a 2 yr contract would take him to 24 and he could be dominating by then as he's played pretty well the latter half of this past season, and I think with a bit of sheltered minutes with Sutter here he could flourish points wise getting somewhat protected starts.Mëds wrote:Give him 2 years. 8 year contract extension now = overpaid first 2,3 years, worth it 2,3 years, slightly underpaid last 2,3 years, give him a raise in his 30's.
But having him locked up = priceless, less headaches, granted a 8 year contract takes him past the CBA where there could be a lockout.
If Bo and Baertschi continue on developing chemistry, he could be putting up some good points in the next couple years.
Can the Canucks just win a Cup within the next 5 years.
