BREAKING: The Golden Knights have fired Gerard Gallant and Mike Kelly, and have immediately named Peter DeBoer head coach of the Golden Knights.
Wow.
Can the Canucks just win a Cup within the next 5 years.

He'll find a new home as fast as he wants one. Freaking short leash in sin city. 24 and 19. Pretty bad.Doyle Hargraves wrote: ↑Wed Jan 15, 2020 7:53 amYes. I never used to like him but he seems like a decent coachThe Brown Wizard wrote: ↑Wed Jan 15, 2020 7:43 am Vegas shit cans Gallant.

Should make him our defense coach, Baumer can join Cull.Gerard Gallant is the master of wrongful dismissals. His clubs totally over-achieve, have a slight drop but nothing dramatic, OUT.
Seriously, the recent management of Mcphee-McCrimmon is really worse than that of Gallant. Really grotesque as a decision.

There is some talk that Travis is now a candidate for the Pacific in the allstar. Really?

I’m told NHL hockey operations is working through options for the replacement Pacific Division coach at the ASG. Expect that availability and team identification will play a role at this late juncture.

There are a handful of coaches that are superior to other NHL coaches at getting more wins from their personnel than an average NHL coach. Gallant is probably one of them. Like canning Laviolette (who is at least average), this is a move that suggests either (1) NHL GM's believe that you can Berubeize a team into action or (2) there is something else going on here that we don't see (e.g., Montgomery -- not that I am trying to suggest Gallant or Laviolette has the same issue). As for the former (the most likely explanation), recent experience plays a larger-than-merited weight in our thinking. Also, we forget the many many many times this move is tried with no success. The Brown Wizard wrote: ↑Wed Jan 15, 2020 7:43 am Vegas shit cans Gallant.

Most likely, this is the move of a GM that prefers action to patience and doesn't have the cap or contract situation to make a meaningful personnel move.

or because Vegas didn't figure the guy they wanted would be available in the summer... so they made a long term move now.

The Vegas Honeymoon is nearing its end. McPhee got gift wrapped with a generous expansion draft. If I’m running a hedge fund on Wall Street I’d be telling day traders like Topper to start shorting his Golden Knights stock

McCann is also 4 years younger, plays multiple positions and makes a fraction of Pearson’s cap hit. Penguins also have three years of control beyond this one.

Ya, Pearson is riding a good run right now but has been an inconsistent player in the past for sure. I'd take ^^^ that McCann situationDoyle Hargraves wrote: ↑Thu Jan 16, 2020 11:02 am McCann is also 4 years younger, plays multiple positions and makes a fraction of Pearson’s cap hit.
