The Babcock signing is great for a mediocre team waiting to make the turn. The leaves are not that.

How he turns the unteachable to coach able is beyond me.

How he turned down a 10 year contract for money is beyond me.

What GM would want a limited role and making much less than the coach? I dunno....this just seems like another Clarkson deal.

He $old his $oul.

A few weeks ago he was adamant about his desire to play for a "winner".

Now, all of a sudden, he's all about a total rebuild.

It's funny what money will do to people.

For $50M he'll let the Coach Killers and the Hounds of Hogtown have their way with him.

Would... YOU... let Bubba fuck you up the ass for a few years... for $50M?

Over the Internet, you can pretend to be anyone or anything.

I'm amazed that so many people choose to be complete twats.

Why would you want to coach a team in decline when you can coach a team in perpetual rock bottom?

Of course he did.

All along, Babcock wanted somebody to show him the money. He knew the leaves were likely to do so. Maybe he was trying to use his pending free agency to get Detroit to ante up. Maybe when he saw the massive gulf between offers (8 years, $50M in Toronto vs 5 years, $20M in Detroit) his decision was made for him.

Like you said, he's the next savior in a long line of saviors. Maurice, Wilson and Carlyle are very good coaches, and they all crashed and burned in the center of the universe. I liked Babcock, but now hope he fails.

I'll bet they're both gone by then.

Leaves can take bad contracts back, retain salary, whatever.

Shanny and The Cock haven't always seen eye-to-eye.

But one thing guys like them agree on is this.

Salutegaters (AKA "anarchists") must go.

Sure the Leaves are gonna get fucked up the ass on these soon-to-be trades

... but if they didn't enjoy a good ass-fucking they wouldn't have given those contracts to Bert & Ernie.
Also, consider the phact that Phat Phil's contract is phront-loaded.

http://wayback.archive.org/web/20141015 ... player/214

He got $10M of it last season and is due for $4M in signing bonus on July 1.

That means a team acquiring him after July 1 would owe him $50M over 7 seasons

.... roughly $7M per season (with $8M cap-hit).

I could see a team like Phlorida... where Phil likes to spend his long oph-seasons

... giving up say one of their many prospects + Jussi for Phucked-up Phil.

Now, I would never trade for Phil, but some of these GMs can talk themselves into anything.

Could see Kessel wind up in Arizona, Florida, Columbus and maybe even Nashville.

Does not count against the cap, so the money means absolutely nothing.

And most of those "Unteachable Players" will be gone before he coaches his first game anyways.

He did actually say last summer NHL coaches are terribly underpaid.

I found it odd people thought he'd go to the Blues or Sharks for 20-30 million less. Was never going to happen.

Money is very, very important. That's why the leaves should not have been discounted so fast.

Detroit's final offer was reportedly 5 years @ $4M per.

McKenzie has said the leaves made an aggressive offer. I doubt billionaire Pegula will be outbid, though, and Buffalo has the brighter future. Bozak or Eichel...hmmmmm.
LOL nice of you to make it about Bozak vs. Eichel. No Nylander? Kadri? Strome? Marner?

Msybe he wanted to live in a fantastic city and not the armpit of America.

Great article by Cox about the myth of Buffalo having so much better talent than the leaves:
The big problem is the leaves have no GM. A new guy is going to be second fiddle to Babcock. It will be a strange relationship for a new GM to come with a golden boy coach, with a major say in player personnel and player moves, on a contract that lasts for eight years.

Tsn4 is all over this right now.

NHL apparently not pleased.
The leaves already have their GM. There's no issue. It'll be Mark Hunter or Kyle Dubas.
