Re: Offseason Wheelings and Dealings
Seems most of the posers, so far, over at Cowpuke are not pleased with the term. Some not please with the cap hit. Some do have on the rose coloured glasses but most seemed unimpressed with this move. Cap and term are steep, do we have any D making that type of coin? NOT, yet anyway.
The only HW the Canucks need

DeLevering since 1999.
Re: Offseason Wheelings and Dealings
It's Calgary, they are going to be horrible this year and horrible for the foreseeable future barring a spectacular turn around. They'll have to overpay to get players there for the next little while, the same as Edmonton does.Hockey Widow wrote:Seems most of the posers, so far, over at Cowpuke are not pleased with the term. It's nice having a team and city that players actually want to come to.

Brick Top: Do you know what "nemesis" means? A righteous infliction of retribution manifested by an appropriate agent. Personified in this case by an 'orrible cunt... me.

Sorry Donny, I wasn't implying I had any inside info just using wishful thinking.

Re: Offseason Wheelings and Dealings
It's crazy how much cap space a lot of teams have going into this off season. I don't think most players and GMs thought the ceiling would rise this high this fast and a lot of franchise players are eating up much less of the cap % than they were 2-3 years ago. This should make for a fairly silly July 1, with a lot of $$$ and term thrown at mediocre players, probably even sillier than last year hopefully MG can take advantage...

McKenzie saying 26 teams expressed interest in Schultz today. A shortlist of 5 or so teams expected by end of day. He expects team will be chosen much earlier than July 1.
So my question is.....who are the 3 GMs who aren't doing their job?

That's a tough financial hurdle to over come ....unless... Bouwmeester in on the move. Who knows maybe BB will take on his contract.coco_canuck wrote:Bouwmeester and Wideman combine for a $12M cap-hit.
Good luck with that.
A couple of years ago I had from a good source MG was in the Bouwmeester sweep stakes but where out bid by our friend Mr Sutter ....... thanks for small mercy
cheers

Jeremy Rutherford @jprutherford
Not saying Wideman was overpaid but Oates passed him in the Caps building and said "you lucky dog, I wish something good would happen to me"

I love every move Jim Benning makes

That Wideman deal looks really good if you compare it to Stajan's contract.

Re: Offseason Wheelings and Dealings
Maybe not...they apparently gave him not just $5.25 mil for each of the next 5 years but also a No Movement Clause.
Feaster: Dennis we just traded for your rights. How much you want?
Wideman: ummm calgary? I think I'd like to test free agency.
Feaster: Dennis we'll give you more than anybody else...name your number.
Wideman: how about $5.25 a year for 5 years?
Feaster: Excellent I;ll fire that contract right over!
Wideman: Still...Calgary? really?
Feaster: I'll give you a No Movement Clause! Please pretty please?
Wideman: I guess....
So basically the Flames are paying Dennis Wideman more than most top 4 D-men in the league when on a good team he's a thrid pairing playing protected mintues and PP specialist type player. Nice move Feaster. Nice move. Fuck I love the flames!

its good that i am not alone in feeling that way...

Re: Offseason Wheelings and Dealings
Wideman is a good D, but no doubt that is a steep price. It's interesting, same move they made with J-Bo (getting rights in advance, and locking him up) but he was deemed a much better player the Wideman. He'll be solid, but for 5.25, jeepers, he better be really good...I'd have been choked if the Canucks made such a move, for sure.

Re: Offseason Wheelings and Dealings
Old wine new bottle in Calgary it seems.
Or perhaps they are just confident?
Then I'd like to see Iginla locked up until retirement at 6mill/year for them.
Might as well add in Jokinen too, since he did play better this past season afterall right? Jokinen 4 mill/year until retirement.
Do it Feaster! Don't disappoint us.
