I like ESPN's Mike and Mike in the Morning. Those guys do a good job, but only for NFL, NBA and MLB. Not sure I've heard them talk hockey ever, but from a quality perspective they are one of the shows that sets the bar.

Fact is, the internet>smart phones>twitter and other multimedia sources for news/info has made sports columnists and radio tools redundant, shoving them down the food chain.

They've had to change the direction of radio in order to survive. Its less about the events and more about the drama.

In Vancouver at least, the local rags and local radio tools all hang in the same pissed filled hot tub. The community as a whole here is old and stale.

I mean come on, Jake Edwards? Are you serious??

Their are so many instant sources for news and opinions that, in my mind, have made a majority of the local avenues like the TEAM and Prov etc, obsolete.

Rather than dumb it down, shouldn't the media take advantage of the 'fast' online news sources and discuss real topics in depth. For radio, they should be able to hold an audience captive and discuss the topics of the day. Instead it sounds like they're trying to match the short attention span 'format' of the new media.

Radio is just going through a slow death thanks to the internet, plus radio ad's feel like going through torture.

I just think with brojake, they are just trying to sound like Howard Stern? ha idk I've never listened to team1040/tsn1040, unless I had to drop someone off at the ferry and I didn't want to miss the game.

Radio still has a place, when you are in your car you may want to listen to what happened last night.

I don't want to listen to Jake talking about his past or other crap points that they bring up.

Not Vancouver related but:

"NBC Sports has bulked up its hockey coverage with a pair of solid hires from Canada. The network has added Bob McKenzie, the longtime TSN Hockey Insider, as a full-time contributor. McKenzie will appear regularly on NBC and NBCSN including as an in-studio contributor to NBCSN’s Wednesday Night Rivalry telecasts. He’ll also do on-site commentary at NHL All-Star Weekend, the Stanley Cup Final, and NHL draft. NBC has also added TSN Hockey Insider Darren Dreger. McKenzie and Dreger will continue in their respective roles for TSN in Canada."

Wow, that's a pretty big deal as far as TSN is concerned.

If NBC pulls McKenzie away from TSN that would be a huge loss.

For now he keeps his TSN gig. Too bad SN didn't grab him.
