So, Zach Hamill, of Utica and Bruins fame, has signed on for my other team, Björklöven, in the Swedish second tier league. He didn't amount to much in the NHL, but seems to have pretty good AHL figures.

Any of you recall him from his time in Utica?
Is he related to Mark?

More on Zach:
Drafted in the first round by the Bruins in 2007; went as # 8!
But then things kind of stalled, I guess :|

A total of 20 games in the NHL and 349 in the AHL. Then the KHL, Finland, Switzerland, Germany and now Björklöven.
No Stanley Cup ring, even though he played for Boston in 2010/11 (3 games, you need 20 iirc, or a playoff game).
He'll have to make an attempt to win Allsvenskan, the Swedish second tier league, instead. :drink:

That 2006-07 Silvertips team might as well have been named the Everett Bust.

Zach Hamill... 8 Overall to Boston.
Peter Mueller... 8 Overall to Arizona.
Kyle Beach.... 11 Overall to Chicago.
Taylor Ellington... 33 Overall to Vancouver.

Highlights reel: https://www.championshockeyleague.net/v ... final/3840

The Champions Hockey League is a tournament with 48 teams from 13 European nations (Sweden 8, Finland 8, Germany 6, Czech Rep 6, Switzerland 6, Austria 4, Norway 2, France 2, Slovakia 2, Denmark 1, Poland 1, Belarus 1, Great Britain 1). It started out as a the Nordic Trophy in 2006, a pre-season tournament between Finnish and Swedish teams. In 2010 they added German, Swiss, Austrian and Norwegian teams and switched name to the European Trophy.
The IIHF had created a Champions Hockey League in 2008, but it got cancelled after just one season due to a lack of sponsors. In 2014 the IIHF announced that the European Trophy would inherit the name and become the new Champions Hockey League. Luleå HF won the inaugural season of 2014/15, and then Frölunda Indians have won the following two.

The 48 teams are divided into 16 3-team groups where the teams face eachother twice (home and road), then two teams from each group go on to a 32 team elimination phase where you play your opponent once at home and once on the road, and the combined winner moves on to the next stage, all the way to the final, which is decided in one single game.

Curious what countries he will be hitting. Below are Euros rated to go top 20.

Necas - Czech
Kostin - Russian
Liljegren - Swede
Pettersen - Swede
Andersson - Swede
Heiskanen - Finn
Vesalainen -Finn

Where he will be picking ( if he still has a job ) , I can only see Liljegren being a possibility. Maybe the toothpick Pettersson

Please no to Pettersen. 6'-2" - -160 lbs? How is that even possible. I don't even think Brad Ference was that much of a tooth pick.

And no Czechs please (Necas) another tooth pick. It would be Nedved all over again

Picking up former Canuck (well, Utica at least) Zach Hamill proved to be a good move.

Björklöven has had a terrible season and risked having to play relegation games to avoid demotion from the second tier league. It came down to the very last game. Björklöven were one point behind Västerås, the team they faced, and needed a win in regulation to pass them. An ot win would not suffice, as they had terrible goal differential.

After having been behind 1-0, they came back and managed to get a 2-1 lead, but with five minutes on the clock, Västerås tied the game. Then with just 46 seconds left of regulation, David Lindqvist gets a puck from behind the goal to Hamill who shoots and scores! Björklöven passes both Västerås and Modo in the standings and are safe.
Södertälje and Västerås will play the relegation games. 8-)
