Salo signed - 1yr 2 mil
Not a bad deal for both sides. Nice to see that our D depth is mostly back for another year.

Phew...feel better. We have D corps now, which will get us thru reg season.
Re: Salo signed - 1yr 2 mil
The pessimist in me says that we shoulda paid more to maximize our LTIR cap relief. He'll be good as our #5, and 2nd unit PP guy. Good signing, if we can keep him healthy-ish.Cornuck wrote:Not a bad deal for both sides. Nice to see that our D depth is mostly back for another year.
The Cup is soooooo ours!!!!!!!
Re: Salo signed - 1yr 2 mil
I thought about this but in the end I decided it makes more sense to just not use cap space in the first place, which is even more flexible. However this requires more discipline on the part of the GM.Tciso wrote:Cornuck wrote:we shoulda paid more to maximize our LTIR cap relief

It was either Salo or Ehrhoff, Salo came in cheaper and one year works for me, Ehrhoff is over paid by the Sabres so we can't pay that price.

Plus, we wouldn't have wanted Ehrhoff for 10 years.

Ten or even seven years. He wouldn't come back for a million a year for the last three years?

Yeah, nice to see Sami back. Not sure we have room for that beast D-man anymore though, unless we move a guy. So, our D is pretty much the same as last year, but knowing our guys, they will get banged up and miss some games.

Baltard-Edler
Alberts-Salo
spare: Rome
minors: Tanev (start in minors and shuttle back and for when needed as mentioned by Strange).
D looks pretty good I guess, propbably not as good as last year. I'd rotate the last spot between Salo-Alberts-Rome. I'd try to shield Salo against bigger/gritty guys; use him more on special teams and make him a healthy scratch on back-to-back games, kind of like what we do for Lou. And Baltard? Depending how he does in Camp and Oct, I'd play him to death to get his confidence back up, see if he can impress, get his trade value back up, and maybe move him. If he still sucks, we might have a problem on our hands and we might have to buy him out.

Good to sign Salo at a discount! Let's hope he stays healthy.
We're going to need a bounce back year from Ballard in order to be solid on the PP.
I hope AV manages his ice time in a way that gets his confidence back.
Still think we'll need more depth on D for the playoffs. MG is far from finished reshaping and tinkering with the lineup.
