Manny cleared for Full Practice...CLEARED TO PLAY IN FINAL.

Vancouver Canuck centre Manny Malhotra, who suffered what was thought to be a season-ending eye injury on March 16 that at one point was perhaps considered to be career-threatening, has been cleared by doctors to fully participate in practice, including taking contact.
Who knows if he'll be ready for game one. But what a boost this could be!

This is incredible news, I think most of this were hoping and half expecting it seeing as he has been practising with the team. But to have it as a reality. This is incredible.
Most of all though, I'm just happy for Manny and his family that he is healthy.

Great to hear!

Great news for the Canucks - FANTASTIC news for Malhotra. This would be a huge boost if he gets in the lineup.

Oh hell yeah! 8-) 8-) 8-)

If Malhottra does play, he will probably play on the 4th line.......but even a rusty Malhottra would be a considerable upgrade obviously.

Lapierre would probably still be our 3rd line center at this point in time.

I'm guessing Hodgson is the odd man out. I kind of hope not, this would be great experience for him. I think Oreskovic and Glass will be valuable assets if they meet up with Boston.

Great News !!! if he plays it will probably be 4th line with spot duty on the PK.. Makes the Canucks a lot harder to beat :)

DO YOU BELIEVE IN MIRACLES??

Post by DavidPratt_ »

DO YOU BELIEVE IN MIRACLES???

THE VANCOUVER CANUCKS ARE ON VERGE OF 2 OF THEM…

THE FIRST…IS THE STANLEY CUP…

THE SECOND…IS THE RETURN OF MANNY MALHOTRA…

TODAY MALHOTRA RECEIVED THE BEST NEWS POSSIBLE…

HE HAS NOW BEEN CLEARED BY DOCTORS…TO FULLY PARTICIPATE IN PRACTICE…

AND THAT INCLUDES…CONTACT…

IT MEANS…THERE IS A CHANCE…HE COULD GET BACK INTO THE LINE UP BEFORE THE PLAYOFFS ARE OVER…

SOMETHING THAT EVEN A FEW WEEKS AGO…WOULD HAVE BEEN CONSIDERED…”UNTHINKABLE”…

TODAY GENERAL MANAGER MIKE GILLIS MADE IT CLEAR…

NO DECISION TO PUT MALHOTRA BACK IN THE LINE UP WILL BE MADE…UNTIL THE TEAM IS GIVEN ABSOLUTE ASSURANCE FROM THE DOCTORS THAT HE CAN NOT DO ANY MORE DAMAGE TO THE EYE…

IN THE MEANTIME MALHOTRA CONTINUES TO WORK OUT…

THE PRIORITY NOW…IS TO GET INTO “GAME SHAPE”…

NOT EASY…WHEN YOU CONSIDER HE HAS NOT PLAYED IN A GAME…SINCE MARCH 16TH…

BUT THAT IS NOT HIS ONLY CHALLENGE…

HE WILL STILL HAVE LIMITED VISION IN HIS LEFT EYE…

AND HE WILL BE FORCED TO WEAR A…FULL CAGE…

SHOULD MALHOTRA FINALLY GET CLEARED TO PLAY…IT WILL BE A HUGE EMOTIONAL LIFT FOR THIS TEAM…

BUT IT WILL BE A LOT MORE THAN THAT…

UNTIL THE EYE INJURY…MALHOTRA HAD WON NEARLY 62 PERCENT OF HIS FACE OFFS…

2ND BEST IN THE ENTIRE NHL…

AND NOWHERE IS THAT SKILL MORE VALUABLE…THAN ON SPECIAL TEAMS…

DURING THE REGULAR SEASON…THE CANUCKS LED THE LEAGUE ON BOTH THE POWER PLAY AND THE PENALTY KILL…

IT WILL NOT BE DIFFICULT FOR HEAD COACH ALAIN VIGNEAULT TO FIND ROOM…

IN GAME 5 OF THE SAN JOSE SERIES…CODY HODGSON SAW JUST 3 MINUTES AND 49 SECONDS OF ICE TIME…

AND THAT GAME WENT INTO DOUBLE OVERTIME…

GAME 1 OF THE STANLEY CUP FINAL GOES NEXT WEDNESDAY…

AND LIKE THE MAN SAID…

”MIRACLES HAPPEN…TO THOSE WHO BELIEVE IN THEM”…

No guarantees that he'll actually play again this year. And if he does, don't expect 62% on faceoffs.
I hope for the best for him though. The boost to his teammates may be his biggest contribution to the finals.

It sure is incredible news for him and his career!

I've changed my mind on wether I think he'll play or not. At first I thought no way... but how can we ignore that some doctor or group of doctors cleared him for contact? I don't think there is any difference medically between full practice and games. The only thing now probably examination after contact and his game conditioning..

I doubt he'd get in early if he does, but later on yes and his prowess in the circle I'm sure is what they're counting on.

Way to go Manny!

If Manny gets in 4th line and important face-offs it would be a major asset. I thought something was up when I seen him with a caged helmet and practice jersey on the ice.

Just last week Malhotra won 5 out 5 draws against Lapierre. I'd say if nothing else he can win draws and then get off the ice.

Another Update:
Vancouver Canucks centre Manny Malhotra has been cleared to play in the Stanley Cup final.

Canucks coach Alain Vigneault made the announcement today after practice.

Vigneault would not say if Malhotra will be in the lineup Wednesday when they Canucks open the final against the visiting Boston Bruins.
