Manny is back for light skating!

Post by Cornuck »

Great fucking news!! I'm glad to hear that his recovery is happening.

Vancouver Canucks center Manny Malhotra took to the ice during Wednesday's practice, fueling speculation that he could return to the lineup at some point during the postseason. According to The Vancouver Province, the Canucks are remaining mum on his status.

"Today was about taking the next step in his recovery and he wanted to do some light skating," Canucks GM Mike Gillis said, according to The Province. "This is just a small step in his recovery. There is no timetable and there's no schedule with an injury like this. He's at this point because everything seems to be stable and it's just another step. We've never asked and we've never been given a timeline.

"It's about how he's recovering. It's basically day-by-day, week-by-week and month-by-month. We're optimistic and just holding our breath about his ability to continue to recover. His recovery is the paramount thing and we'll make decisions along the way and it never entered into our minds about playing, this is about his health. We're just going to let the process take whatever time it requires."

Fantastic News.. I am hoping he will take his time.. fully recover and be ready for next year.. Guy has class and guts :)
No sense bringing him into the playoffs at this stage.. Lapierre is doing a great job.. and Hodgson is filling in on the 4th..
Gillis will be having a GM's toughest decisions for next year which really good centers to keep :) 5 on 1 team? unheard of..

Easy, move Hodgson to the wing and have him apprentice w/ Manny in the middle. Let Torres go and keep Hansen on that line. Re-up Lapierre for the 4th line (best pivot we've had there in ages) and keep Higgins for the 2nd line w/ Kesler & Raymond. I don't know what you do w/ Samuelsson....maybe 4th line + 1st unit PP duty? Keep him fresh as a specialist and move him up through the lineup as needed.

Could use another goal scorer if Raymond isn't going to be that guy, and Sammuelson is awful on the PP in my opinion.

Awful on the point or awful on the PP? I thought he was good on the PP as a winger...perhaps the 2nd unit w/ Burrows & Hodgson? He was lights out last year in the playoffs, this year he's clearly been playing hurt.

Funny thing is, one game just as I was griping about him on the point he snaps the puck on net and a Canuck tips it (Kesler?) for a goal. I'll give him that, he's not afraid to put it on net even w/ a wrist shot...something some of our Dmen are reluctant to do unless they have a perfect shot or have time to wind up. One of Malhotra's tips was for Ehrhoff to use his snapper instead of the big wind up, he did and scored the next game.

I can't help but wonder this as well. What if Malhottra is a LOT closer to returning than what Gillis is leading on?........and in a major surprise move, we see him dressed and ready to go on Sunday. 8-) 8-) 8-) 8-) 8-)

While I realize that Malhottra, in all likelihood, is probably months away from returning........I just can't help but wonder if Gillis and Vigneault are up to something.

If you're guessing, that means San Jose is guessing, and that is probably the whole point. Keep your opponents guessing, then they need to develop plans for every possibility, and that slows them down.

My guess is he is really done for the season, and if he was going to play he wouldn't be at practice in track pants.

Definitely be a huge inspirational boost and really add to the story....every good cup run needs a story to go along with it!

This years Canuck story is Kesler. but how about this for your tear jerk story..
Its game 7 Stanley cup finals the scores tied 5 min left in the 3rd.. Maholtra comes in to replace an injured Hank Sedin.. wins his first face off.. heads for the net.. Daniel shoots a slapper from his usual 45 ft out.. Maholtra fights for the rebound and scores the winning goal..

I think Maholtra just being with the team is an inspirational boost anything over that is kinda looking for a miracle..

I think he should be cut some slack as I believe he was hurt all along. I'm not believing the flu bug story anymore but when he went down too eason on the left leg that's what clued me into why he was always passing up an opportunity to one time a shot from the blue line as he would have had to put extra weight on the left leg.

My theory anyways.

Oh I'm not knocking his performance at the moment, but he has always been bad on the point where Edler should be.
