Pleased enough for both of them...interesting yes, bolster the line up for sure, but no key players gone is the big news in all of it.

Still wondering how we fit Higgins in under the cap - who gets demoted / traded?

So far I am guessing they were acquired to play with Glass on the 4th line, so Cody and Oreskovich can be sent down to the Moose.

Higgins can be bumped to the 2nd line if need be, meaning if Raymond doesn't answer the bell, Higgins is there to 'help him' do so.

Higgins is on IR, so no cap hit yet......but I love that pickup. When healthy he's a gamer.

LaPierre, maybe a bit undisciplined, let's see what AV can do. if he performs, could be a steal.

I think I'd rather have got Reasoner than Higgins for that price. I guess Higgins is still decent defensively and can play on our 4th line and he has similar #s to Raymond while playing on Florida so maybe he gets a chance to take Raymond's spot and potentially push Raymond to get it going. Plus Higgins is UFA at seasons end so hes playing for a contract as well. If Raymond does not get it going down the stretch or playoffs I gotta think hes heading out of town.

I dont mind Lapierre he had a pretty good playoffs last season, hes gritty, fast and can hit/forecheck and get under opponents skin - plus you gotta think he will be on a short leash from coaching staff and the locker room and that should curtail some of his stupid penalties, if he can play between the whistles he should be a good addition. Plus he's an RFA so if he does well we should be able to retain him at a good price.

Reasoner would've been nice but word is Florida plans to keep him, possibly the next C now that McCabe's gone. I'm pretty happy with Higgins, a bit surprised we got him actually. If healthy, he could be a steal, especially if it leads to a contract. seems to be a raymond-or-higgins thing boiling down.

i love these trades. we just bolstered that bottem 6 the way we needed and it should definatly help us! Oberg had some upside so its sad to see him go but it's worth it. does anyone know what they have remaining on their contracts?

Higgins in supposed to be out 7-10 days witha thumb injury so he wont be gone for long

Higgins is kind of a nondescript guy to me, like the Lapierre move more. Don't see Higgins offering much, kind of a tweener.

Higgins has sucked ever since being traded from Montreal. But, playing with the Rangers, Calgary and Florida is not going to help any player's development. He ends the Tambellini experiment, and as mentioned, can definitely push Raymond for 2nd line ice time. Great pickup in both cases for 4th line depth. And, Higgins gets to play for a new contract, so hopefully, he busts his ass.

Read that Reasoner didn't wish to be moved because his wife is expecting and the baby is due soon. No, he doesn't have a NTC but it's a reasonable request, and Florida has to keep some players on their roster to hit the salary floor also.
