Around the League
Wow did Calgary get spanked tonight 7 -1Chicago. That team looked very lazy and was Sutter pissed about it
Toronto.. Wow.. If that team didn't have bad luck they wouldn't have no luck at all.. I hate the leaves But for god sake. Even i feel sorry for them.. Worst team In the NHL at the quarter Point. The fans and media are still having a love in for Burke.
Nice goal By Stamkos. 14 on the season, 22 points in 19 games .. How does this guy not make Team Canada. ya just gotta put him on the team

that goal is unbelievable... wow... put a canadian sweater on him already. Stamkos is so talented, and he already has one of the more accurate shots in the league. Canada would be foolish not to be giving these young guys a chance just because they are just that.. young and have a small body of work in the National league.
its going to be tough to beat that, this reminds me of hte ovechkin falling and twisting no look goal against pheonix... beauty

That was pretty good. Don't-give-up-no-matter-where-you-are type of goal.Broda wrote:that goal is unbelievable... wow... put a canadian sweater on him already. I don't think Stamkos is going to make team Canada. A case can be made for it, but then there are quite a few good centers on team Canada. Who is he going to bump ? Getzlaf, Lecavalier, Crosby, Thornton, Toews ... Of if he plays right wing we have Iginla, Perry, and Heatley.

Imagine an already good team in the Bruins getting potentially two lottery picks. Pretty enviable position to be in.

1) I can't decide whether to love or hate Chicago. Yes - they are the team that eliminated us from the playoffs last year, but they are also the team that drives the Flames (and their fans) absolutely insane.
2) I think it would be funny if Burke drove the leaves headfirst into the ground......but I shouldn't be openly wishing that (nor should any of you!). Don't want to piss off the Hockey Gods, seeing as how they already have an inexplicable disdain for Vancouver-based sports teams.
3) I hope Stamkos makes it. One thing that REALLY pissed me off back in 06', was how Crosby was NOT named to the team . Yes, I'm not exactly Crosby's biggest fan, but the guy deserved to be on that team. Fuck seniority. If you're good enough, you're good enough.

When Mario decided not to play ( stating he was too old and not in top shape ) for Team Canada in 06 he suggested Crosby. Gretzky decided to go with old buddies instead.. Hopefully Stevie Y and management does a better job of choosing players to represent Canada.. Stamkos deserves a long look.. Though there is still a months hockey before they have to make a decision..3) I hope Stamkos makes it. One thing that REALLY pissed me off back in 06', was how Crosby was NOT named to the team . Re: Around the League
I think a few of us feel the same way about Chicago. Not just for the Flames aspect but because they are truly a talent-laden team. Look at their blue line and first two scoring lines. It's hard not to somewhat admire them. I have a soft spot for Brent Seabrook because it's good to see a kid make it from the lower mainland and do so well. He was there from bad times and it's nice to see him have some success.Farhan Lalji wrote:

I think he's starting off real well in that direction. lol. That franchise has systematically been in shambles for a long time, it's just now unraveling with their 'saviour' in charge. Oh well. Much deserved. Could this be the "Passion of the Burke" ..."Yahweh, yahweh, who hast thou forsaken me?" ...2) I think it would be funny if Burke drove the leaves headfirst into the ground......but I shouldn't be openly wishing that (nor should any of you!). So do I. And for Crosby much agreed. I hate that 'seniority' thing sometimes. If the player is a better play and good enough to be on the team it shouldn't matter if you're taking viagra or not!!3) I hope Stamkos makes it. Re: Around the League
I think as it relates to either Crosby and Stamkos or anything team Canada (or team anyone) related, it is probably best to argue to "Stamkos IN, Crosby OUT" or something along those lines. i.e., who are the 4 centers, 8 wingers and 6 D you want playing ? (And don't forget to remember the PK and PP while picking those forwards...).LotusBlossom wrote:If the player is a better play and good enough to be on the team it shouldn't matter if you're taking viagra or not!!
Independent of age, I don't know if you can include Stamkos without removing some other key ingredient. And do you want someone who has played well for 20 or 40 games in their entire career or someone who has played well for 800 games ? For example, do you want Stamkos or Lecavalier. You don't know whether or not Stamkos will wilt under the pressure but you do know that Lecavalier will not.
I admit to being happy Bertuzzi made it 4 years ago but in hindsight that was a dumb pick. Independent of the Moore incident, Bertuzzi wasn't playing well for at least a year before he was picked for the Olympic team.
There is something to be said for picking experience over youth but on the other hand there does need to be some balance and if a young player is clearly better by all means take him.
As for our leafy friends in T-f'n-O, they are 1-0 in the last game, backward helmuts and all. I still think they will challenge for a playoff spot (and fail) because that is what they do. Get the hopes of their fans up, don't make any trades for prospects at the deadline and then suck. However if I am wrong and they end up with a lottery pick that will put the nail in the coffin wrt the Kessel trade. Burke will look really dumb and the Kessel trade will truly be deemed wayyyy premature (and impatient).

Re: Around the League
bah
Nash-Crosby-Iginla
Marleau-Thornton-Heatley
Morrow-M. Richards-Doan
Carter-Getzlaf-Perry
Toews
Stamkos
Pronger-Niedermayer
Bouwmeester- Weber
Seabrook-Keith
Phaneuf
Boyle
Luongo
Brodeur
Fleury
What's all this debate about? Any other configuration is just silly.

The Olympic debate is about Stamkos being hot, so therefore he should be on the team. I like your lineup and I don't care who the alternates are.the toucan kid wrote: What's all this debate about?

Re: Around the League
This is a once in a lifetime opportunity for the Canadian Players, getting to Play for Canada On Canadian soil.. All these player will be long retired before the Winter Olympics are in Canada again. Plus there is a huge Chance that the NHL will not allow it's players to play in Olympics again.
The Team should be made up of players that are playing the Best In the NHL at the time.. Not Players that have been good in the past.
Every Canadian NHL player should have the Chance to do this once in a lifetime Opportunity.
This Is bigger then the Stanley Cup
