Another Canuck Tragedy

Post by Island Nucklehead »

http://www.tsn.ca/nhl/story/?id=273638

Vancouver Canuck Taylor Pyatt is on his way home to Thunder Bay, Ont., after his fiancee was killed in a car accident.

Carly Bragnalo was killed yesterday in a crash in Jamaica where she was on holidays.

Pyatt's family confirmed the death.

The couple was to be married this summer.

What a terrible, awful, heart-breaking event. Tragic. I hope Taylor takes his time and forgets hockey for a while.

Damn. that's bad news for Pyatt. Hopefully he'll be able to grieve and be able to refocus on the game for the playoffs. His game has been coming around the past couple months I thought. The team will rally around him like crazy hopefully too.

As you can probably tell I am a Flames fan through and through.

And while I hate the Canucks I thought my first post would hopefully be one where we can all agree.

This is a very sad day for the Pyatt family and the family of his fiance. After suffering a loss myself recently, I know how difficult it can be to cope. My heart truly does go out to him.

My condolences, that is a life altering event and a genuine tragedy for Mr. Pyatt. He's had a tough year on the ice, but that's all secondary now and I'm sure the organization will give him all the time he needs to grieve.

First off - my sincere condolensces to the Pyatt family. I wish Taylor and his family nothing but the best during this difficult time period.

Having said that - and I pose this thought/question with the utmost reservation and consideration - I wonder about the following:

I wonder if this horrific situation will piss off Pyatt to the point where he comes back to the ice with a f'cking vengeance....and elevates his game as result. Again - I apologize in advance if this thought/question of mine is inappropriate (mods please delete this if it is), but I honestly wonder about it. Pyatt, much like the "2003 version of Bertuzzi", is a big man with some very respectable skill. If this guy ever developed the 'mean streak' that Bertuzzi had back in the day, then who knows what Taylor could do.

Could a situation like this make the Canucks even MORE cohesive? We saw how these guys routed Calgary on opening night....a night that was devoted to Luc Bourdon (RIP).

Pretty inapropriate. Nobody can expect this guy to do anything but grieve. If he can't play in the playoffs for us, oh well some things are more important than hockey. To even suggest that his play could improve a-la Hollywood script is pretty weak and insensitive, IMO.

The second part though, I believe to be somewhat true. I don't know that it will make the Team any better, but the willingness to rally around someone in a time of distress will only bring the rest of the team together.

Pyatt needs to take all the time he needs and it is completely reasonable if yesterday was the last game he plays this year. What a horrible event.

Farhan, that pretty much proves you're an automaton.

I don't know Farhan that's a pretty tough premise to buy. I don't think it's insensitive to talk about hockey issues on a hockey board though - seems obvious to me you can be sympathetic to the person and be less than crazy about the player. My opinion on Pyatt is that the "whole he has all the ability but none of the heart" argument has always been mistaken. He's big, but that's all, too slow on his feet to play the game at a high level. None of this means I don't feel bad about the death of his fiance as I said.

My family and I send our condolensces to the Bragnalo and Pyatt families. Terrible news, my buddy texted me today saying did you hear.. was thinking oh maybe he broke something in practice, but this is awful and much more real.

Take your time Taylor this is the time to grieve not worry about the playoffs.

About the team rallying. This is probably one of the closest nit group of guys in the nhl right now and probably in canucks franchise history. If anything they will just come together more.
