Good post, but Sundin is a blood n' guts guy. He's gritty as hell. I think you'll like watching him play.

who exactly are these players that have been cast off as crap ? These guys that play their heart out for you? You seem very angry about it.

Recently a soft Swedish captain who was allergic to the opposition goal mouth left Vancouver for New York. I think most people would agree that it was best for both parties that they parted ways. He had some great years here , but was grossly overpaid over the last two seasons.

The other day an extremely tiny centre from Pitt Meadows signed with the Anaheim Ducks for 2.75 million per year. Considering he was quite soft and small and was coming off 4 major injuries I didn't mind seeing him go. He was also a productive player for a few seasons, but his best days are likely behind him.

Two summers ago Vancouver traded a hugely talented winger who had some great years but was (and is) on a rapid decline in production. He was lazy, constantly taking his team off the PP and hasn't played physically for four or five years, not to mention he has a back that has given him a lot of trouble. Vancouver also obtained an incredible goalie in this trade, so I can't understand why anybody would be devastated by this move.

Are these some of those great players you seem so bitter about ?

Don't let the door hit you on the way out.

I wonder how Mason Raymond feels about all this... Think he sits by his computer at home, hitting the refresh button every few minutes hoping there is new Sundin information, then angrily throwing his glass across the room when nothing comes up?

He probably beside himself at the possibility of getting minutes with Sundin and Demitra. That would be sick. Talk about a nice way to "develop".

Okay bye.

Agree with Blob, liked'em when they were here, but they were not "cast off", it was best for both sides.

The other dynamic of the boards from this Hanky character is apparently after he made the prediction about Sundin coming here for sure:

The team 1040 was supposed to have Gillis on but he cancelled at the last minute and instead said there will be a press conference tomorrow with a big announcement tomorrow afternoon.

Not sure how blown out of proportion this got in the thread, but it seems like there is some sort of announcement from Gillis tomorrow. People are speculating it might be the demitra signing or both him and Sundin.

My guess would be Demitra has signed. I don't think Sundin has made up his mind in 48 hours and then signed on the dotted line. I feel Sundin will make his choice in about two weeks as everything this man does is carefully thought out.

I think it will be both. I think Gillis has been waiting to announce Demitra until he had Sundin on the dotted line. I'm okay with the twenty millions, hey, it's not my money, the team has the cap room, and if that's what it takes, so be it.
I also have it on good authority (another HF poster) that Sundin will sign here because he has a secret arrangement with the Battlestar Galactica set, and can sit in a Viper whenever he wants. I know Mattola would take that deal.
SUNDIN/DEMITRA, FRAK THE WORLD!

Blah blah blah blah. If I had a dime for everyone who ever said "if this doesn't change I'm not buying/watching/participating" who then went on to do exactly that I'd be rich.

I hope he signs now for the sole reason of seeing you eat those words.

If Luongo wasn't here I'd be with you, sadly we only have two more years with him under contract. Gillis is clearly thinking we have to go for it now, and hope it works out for us. ............., another high pick would be great, but a cup would be better.

Compare

Sedin-Sedin-Bernier
Demitra-Sundin-prospect
to any other top 6 in the NW. Heck, that's almost up there with the top teams in the league. Couple that with a great checking line, a solid defence and the best goalie on earth and we're an instant contender. ................. I just want that ONE cup at this point.
I wasn't a fan of the Nonis firing at the time but I like the Aquilini/Gillis motto of trying to be a contender every season. If Sundin comes, then the team will definately be a contender. Which at the end of last season, looking at the UFA's available, did not seem very probable.

I didn't hear it personally, but apparently Shorty was on 1040 today and said that a couple sources had told him that Sundin to Vancouver was pretty much done, and was reasonably confident he'd be signed, sealed and delivered in a week or so. A few people claim to have heard this, so I have no reason to doubt it.

Thoughts?

Edit: Did anyone hear it themselves? I try not to listen to 1040 as Pratt drives me insane.

So if it's a done deal, why isn't he here selling tickets, getting milked by the team and asked stupid questions by the press?

Is he planning to come back in time for the playoffs?

Maybe it's down to Vancouver vs retiring vs playing in Sweden?

I heard it....basically shorty said that "until the last 24hrs, I really didn't think he would come here. I've been told by 2 people I really respect with the organization that the chances have much improved. But you never now, things can always change."

I'm paraphrasing a bit, but basically shorty heard 2 people he respects a lot tell him that there is a good chance Sundin will sign.

But until he physically puts pen to paper, you never know with these things.

- sell what tickets. we are sold out the whole year already.

- last I checked its July 11th (10th where you are) and we have a little while before puck drop

- im not sure he wants to play in sweden. what has he to accomplish there. Sundin strikes me as an individual who wants to the cup bad. good or bad on your view of the canucks if he signs here I dont believe its for the money entirely as I think he probably would have gotten 8M per on the open market. canucks just said HEY we are serious here.

this is a interesting development to say the least for Team 1040 to broadcast it so much

we will see.
