Naslund No Longer a Canuck
Signed with the Rangers 1 year $4.5M.
No official link yet, but apparently it's done.
Fuck
This is the worst offseason ever.

Got this from Canuck Central forums...........
"Not sure if it is true or not, however their are many rumor mills saying a 1-2 year deal worth 4.5 per year. Also the Rangers have called for a press conference at 4:30 Est. I

Side note, apparently Cooke is heading to Pittsburgh."
Maybe this can shed some light on this

Perhaps at this point, the Canucks should focus on building a fort around Luongo.
-Add 1-2 more quality defensemen (I don't know who is available)
-Let's get even tougher up front (Laraque and Brashear are available....might be decent on the 4th line playing alongside Ryan Johnson).
-Mike Peca...while not as good as he once was, is still an excellent shut down forward...and elevates his game come playoff time (assuming the Canucks make it).
-Get a few more guys that are known as PP and PK specialists. Players like Josh Green and Nolan Baumgartner (players that are similar to this)....could be had for reasonably cheap, and will also serve a specific purpose on the team.
So
-Excellent goaltending
-Excellent defensive depth,
-Excellent special teams
-Good toughness
Very low GA.
I'm not sure which players are available, but perhaps this would also be a good time to try and create 4 balanced lines (similar to the Oilers of 05/06). We have 20 million+ in cap space. If it means over paying for a handful of (gritty, defensively savvy) players, I say do it. Perhaps the Canucks can have the equivalent of two 'second lines' and two 'third lines.'

But yeah, it looks as if it's true.
He also mentions that apparently Naslund scored 4 goals in 12 playoff games this year, which is news to me.Swedish left wing Markus Naslund, who played in Vancouver for 12 years is the newest Ranger, inking a one year, $4.5-million deal. They also added defenseman Dmitri Kalinin from Buffalo

For the first time since you mentioned that strategy, I think it might be where we have to go. And it's against what MG said he wanted, but if we don't land Sundin and Demitra, it's our best shot.Farhan Lalji wrote:Perhaps at this point, the Canucks should focus on building a fort around Luongo.

Brashear has one year left on his deal and Laraque signed with the Habs today.Farhan Lalji wrote:Perhaps at this point, the Canucks should focus on building a fort around Luongo.

As for Dmen available, the fourth period is reporting that the Canes want to get rid of Frank Kaberle and Niclas Wallin. Kaberle is a $2.2 million cap hit, while Walling is about $1.75. Pretty cheap hits in my opinion, plus I doubt the Canes would want much as the reports claims they want to cut salary. I would welcome picking up one of those guys as a bottom end dman.
Then, if I were Gillis, I go into desperate mode and offer Jagr and Straka a package deal. That would help out the secondary scoring.
Yup that's my crazy ways of doing things.

So continuing on the path that DN forged. Excellent.Farhan Lalji wrote:Perhaps at this point, the Canucks should focus on building a fort around Luongo.
