One isn't surprising, but it's nice to see the other one recognized.

To be clear, this is The Hockey News's rankings, not TSN.

If the Sedins played for the Red Wings, by the way, they'd be ranked, like, 9th and 11th. If Henrik Zetterberg played for the Canucks, he wouldn't be on the list. The power of the trade-mark continues to trump all.

I'm a little surprised Hank isn't on it if Daniel is. Sure Daniel got 36 goals, but Hank also got 71 assists. Is this the sign of the Sedins carving their own identity now?

No, it's a sign of THN not knowing their... [insert clever phrase with 'icehole' here]. Sure, I'd rank Daniel ahead of Hank, but surely not so far ahead that Hank doesn't make the list.

Or maybe they thought Henrik and Daniel were the same guy? ;)

This list doesn't impress me much...too many picks that I disagree with. It's nice to see Luongo getting his due as the top netminder, though.

This signature hates SOB as much as the guy who wrote this signature.

I never got that kid. He's alot like Jovo - huge upside that never quite gets realized, and a bit of a headspace. He's (Phaneuf) too easy to get off his game.

And I wouldn't take him in trade for any of: Jovo, Ohlund, Mitchell or Bieksa.

Except he's not the top netminder.

The season before last he made a claim, but Brodeur stepped up & regained the title last season.

You can't just take it away from the best goalie to ever play, you have to earn it.

As great as Luongo was last season, he wasn't even his best.

I would love to say Luongo will be the better goaler this season, but I'm not willing rank it that way before the season starts.

I think part of the explanation in the intro (I have the issue) mentions that the list is a combination of past success, and also predictions for how they will do this year.

If that's the case, they are expecting Luongo to be the cream of the crop this year, and I hope they're right.

However, some of their picks I don't agree with. For example:

Ovechkin at #2. Yep, he was 4th in the league in goal scoring and top 15 in points on a crappy team. But this guy is not the second best player in hockey.

Gaborik at 16. Super-talented, but I would think he has to stay in the lineup to be considered that high.

Phaneuf at 17. Third best D-man on the list. Yeah right. Funny how Scott Niedermayer didn't officially retire and yet he's omitted.

Parise at 45. Brind'Amour at 38. Cheechoo at 26.

Yet the 4th best set-up man in the league is absent from the list. BS.

Well that's obviously a presumption of his retirement when it went to press, because they wouldn't otehrwise have left him out of the top 50.

What's the problem with him? I'd rate him higher.
