I'm having trouble remembering who will do Canuck playoff games. Do we carry on with sportsnet or does CBC take over right away; and if so do we get one of CBC's HD units or do they not bother because the Canucks are not a Canadian team?
I'm just wondering if there is a chance at getting our games in HD or not.
Thanks

I was actually thinking about starting an HD thread...does anyone know what the plan is for next year's regular season games? I know that Sportsnet cries poor over how they can't show regional games on the national HD network, but come on....I mean how hard must it be to figure something out. This is a fucking joke. I'm not sure how long the Canucks' deal with Sportsnet is for, but the Canucks' themselves should make this a major priority
As far as this year's playoffs, I'm pretty sure that every Canucks' game will be carried on CBC, and they've gotten better at showing most (if not all) of the western regular season games in HD now. There would be a ridiculous outcry if they CHOSE to not show them in HD; they don't have the crutch that Sportsnet does. (Note: I do know that TSN has the rights to some of the opening round series'...but they show all of their own hockey broadcasts in HD now.)
And to all of the people who cry that they don't have HD so they don't care, get a job and poo on you.

First off Mr. Smart Guy, is there some section of the Charter that I don't know about that says that all Canadian teams will always and forever HAVE TO play on CBC during the playoffs...always, question mark? I don't think there is. As a matter of fact, the CBC might LOSE the rights when the current deal is up. http://www.cbcwatch.ca/?q=node/view/2021JamesOwnzSam11 wrote:All Canadian playoffs game are always on CBC....always, period.nuxfanindallas wrote:I was actually thinking about starting an HD thread...does anyone know what the plan is for next year's regular season games? And you very well may be correct, but do you have a source on the HD comment?
I found this schedule on cbc.
http://www.cbc.ca/sports/hockey/hnic/tvschedule.html
It looks as if they've only one HD setup, and it's mostly (surprise!!) toronto, then alberta. Even if toronto doesn't make it it looks like we're shit out of luck unless we play the flamers. Or.. they get more equipment.

I'm not entirely sure what goes into the "HD setup" as far as the network goes, but I'm almost positive that they've got the capability. I'm pretty sure that, regardless of who we play, all of our playoff games will be in HD. I'm not worried about that, more about next year's regular season...
The one problem this weekend though is that CBC does have only ONE national HD channel, and of course they're showing the Laff game on it. The back ends of the CBC double headers this year have almost always been in HD.

Well, that's how it's always been and they have all Canadian team rights for the playoffs and CBC is close to signing a new five year deal with the NHL.nuxfanindallas wrote:First off Mr. Smart Guy, is there some section of the Charter that I don't know about that says that all Canadian teams will always and forever HAVE TO play on CBC during the playoffs...always, question mark?
