Sorry guys, the temptation of making it look like it was Canucks trade was too tempting for me.

DOH! That's what I meant. Being in class, trying to pay attention and starting a thread is tough.Jovorock wrote:Luc is on Moncton, he has been traded to Cape Breton Screaming Eagles for the Memorial Cup run. Marc Andre Flery was the goaltender for the Eagles a few years ago.
Good for Luc to get on a better team and make another run!
I changed it now

Still, the whole notion of trades in junior hockey is a little tough to take. Bourdon is 19, and would be playing in Manitoba if the rules allowed it, but often junior hockey trades involve younger kids who aren't in that position. The teams and leagues publicly preach education, talk about how well they look after the players, yada yada yada, and then send 17 year old kids packing up to another city and another school halfway through their Grade 12 year and often right in the middle of exam time. It doesn't leave a good taste in your mouth to watch it take place.
Couldn't agree with you more, trading junior players is morally wrong IMO. I recall the PG Spruce Kings when they first entered the BCHL used 47 players their first season. Think of all the kids who screwed up their schooling. I new a family who's kid went to Tacoma, at 16, played 10 games and then disapatched to the Fernie Ghostriders, quit and came home by December, 3 teasm = 3 schools And then at the end of the season he was traded to Regina Pats. Started the next season with the Pats who were going no where, but he was getting good P/P time. The coach was fired and the new coach dumped this kid and brought more of his own players in.Larionov wrote:Still, the whole notion of trades in junior hockey is a little tough to take. The sad thing is he never finished High school caught a STD and ended up caught in posssession of drugs in the US and is doing time now. A very gifted player truly worked over by the system.
What did that family ever do to desrve that sort of treatment, really sad
cheers

I dunno Fred...I think we all have choices to make in life and of course sometimes we make mistakes. But the fact that your friend caught an STD and was in possession of drugs in the US doesn't mean that the junior system is necessarily at fault. Parents and players have a choice if they want to go the major junior route--no one's forcing them to do it. And you can't even say that it's the only way to make it to the NHL as many players opt for the college path (Bieksa?).Fred wrote:Couldn't agree with you more, trading junior players is morally wrong IMO. You know what Junior hockey preys on, kids dreams. They then put them in inappropriate setting many youngsters can't handle. The teams are run by adults and the 16-18 year olds don't stand a chance against them. I remember a few years ago a parent going to visit his son in Merrit, he was playing for the Centenials, they had 6 of them living in a basement. he told him to pack his bags right there and then your leaving !
Think of the likes of Fleury and who was the other kid abused by that coach James.
I can stream off stories of kids getting coffee been thrown over them and chairs thrown at them. There are some good Junior teams but there are lots of bad ones and lets face it. the trading of Juniors like every thing else is done to cover up bad scouting.
Personally i think they should declare their roster in mid October and then that's it for the season, call ups yes from affiliate teams but tarding kids like they were a commodity for get it.By the way the "other Route" following Junior tier 2 and possibly the NCAA route which I believe is rarer than getting drafted in the NHL. One of the few known sides to that story is how many actually graduate. It's a tough regime, pratise every day, weightroom games and still keep your GPA up. Student athletes are under very heavy pressure, unlike the Major Junior where many kids just quit school these kids MUST maintane their GPA or they're history
On a humerous side The Gianst just obtained a junior from a trade and his name is
get this Wacey Rabbit, you got love this kid, I bet he's got some attitude. Just like Johhny Cash "a boy named Sue"

I'm a fan already! Great name (something the NHL is lacking in these days).Fred wrote:Wacey Rabbit, you got love this kid, I bet he's got some attitude. Just like Johhny Cash "a boy named Sue"

I remember a kid i new who was one of only 2 rookies that kept his studies going when with the Kamloops Blazers, they sent him in grade 12 from the Loops to Cranbrooke ( then the Rocky Mountain laegue) not good for his education. But it could have been worse in Grade 12 he could have been sent to a US High school. Maybe they shouldn't allow trades while the kids are still in High School. It's the kids life they're playing with, so many loose the opportunity to attend the Cdn Uni. they are all promised because they never finish High School and how many actually make a limited living from hockey, what percentage ? The CHL never release these figures, it's a black holeJyrki21 wrote:Some good points about trading juniors... especially in the WHL, where you can go from, like, Seattle or Vancouver to Brandon, MB or Swift Current, SK. That would be quite the culture shock, not to mention a hell of a distance.
cheers
