Career Milestones 2021/2022

Post by Per »

Let's kick this off by noting that last night our beloved ;) former canuck Loui Eriksson became only the fifteenth Swedish player to reach 1000 games played in the NHL. Interestingly, five of these have played for the Canucks.

These are the others:
1. Nicklas Lidström, 1564
2. Mats Sundin, 1346
3. Henrik Sedin, 1330
4. Daniel Sedin, 1306

5. Daniel Alfredsson, 1246
6. Börje Salming, 1148
7. Markus Näslund, 1117
8. Calle Johansson, 1109
9. Henrik Zetterberg, 1082
10. Ulf Samuelsson, 1080
11. Tomas Holmström, 1026
12. Fredrik Olausson, 1022
13. Alexander Steen, 1018
14. Nicklas Bäckström, 1011

15. Loui Eriksson, 1000

I don't know, is it just me, or does this feel a bit like one of those "one of these things is not like the others" quizzes? :|

The fifteen best individual seasons for a Canuck player.
Can anyone on the current team break into this? :eh:

_1 Henrik Sedin....... 2009-10 C 82 29 83 112
_2 Pavel Bure ......... 1992-93 R 83 60 50 110
_3 Pavel Bure ......... 1993-94 R 76 60 47 107
_4 Alexander Mogilny 1995-96 R 79 55 52 107
_5 Markus Naslund ... 2002-03 L 82 48 56 104
_6 Daniel Sedin ....... 2010-11 L 82 41 63 104
_7 Todd Bertuzzi...... 2002-03 R 82 46 51 _97
_8 Henrik Sedin....... 2010-11 C 82 19 75 _94
_9 Patrik Sundstrom.. 1983-84 C 78 38 53 _91
10 Pavel Bure ......... 1997-98 R 82 51 39 _90
11 Markus Naslund ... 2001-02 L 81 40 50 _90
12 Stan Smyl .......... 1982-83 R 74 38 50 _88
13 Tony Tanti.......... 1983-84 R 79 45 41 _86
14 Thomas Gradin.... 1981-82 C 76 37 49 _86
15 Thomas Gradin.... 1982-83 C 80 32 54 _86

In the last three seasons, the only player to have produced at a higher clip than 1 PPG is JT Miller, who produced at a 1.04 clip in 19/20, which would translate to 85 points over 82 games. Close, but no cigar. I think both Petey and the Pod may have it in them, but we will have to wait and see.

14 Dennis Kearns........ 1975-76 D 80 _5 46 51
15 Christian Ehrhoff.... 2010-11 D 79 14 36 50

Quinn Hughes has already made the d-man short list, and that in a shortened season to boot.
I expect him to make this list his own and dominate the shit out of it! 8-)
53 in 68 translates to 64 over 82 games. Just saying.

Best season, goalie, wins:

Rk Player ________ Season GP W L T* Svs% GAA SO
1 Roberto Luongo... 2006-07 76 47 22 6 .921 2.28 5
2 Roberto Luongo... 2009-10 68 40 22 4 .913 2.57 4
3 Kirk McLean........ 1991-92 65 38 17 9 .901 2.74 5
4 Roberto Luongo... 2010-11 60 38 15 7 .928 2.11 4
5 Roberto Luongo... 2007-08 73 35 29 9 .917 2.38 6
...
15 Jacob Markstrom 2018-19 60 28 23 9 .912 2.77 1
...
48 Thatcher Demko 2020-21 35 16 18 1 .915 2.85 1

Still a bit to go here.... :?

And once again, the stats make it clear that Roberto Loungo is BY FAR the best goalie the Canucks have ever had. :|
Or... well... Cory Schneider can compete when it comes to svs% and GAA, but he was a backup and probably got used against easier opposition, so not quite comparable.

If you look at their career NHL stats it looks like this
Player________ GP - W - L - T* Svs% GAA SO
Roberto Luongo 1044 489 392 124 .919 2.52 77 (1.056 ppg)
Cory Schneider. _409 170 159 _58 .918 2.43 26 (0.973 ppg)
(The ppg calculated as 2 pts per win and 1 pt per tie or ot loss, divided by games played)

So yeah, Roberto is better at wins, svs%, SO and ppg, whereas Cory has a slight edge in GAA. I say Roberto is better. :drink:
489 career wins compared to 170 sort of indicate that.

* ... or ot loss

Because Per is dancing with himself?
(I'm not great at those kinds of puzzles.)

I found it interesting reading. Compares favourably with most threads on the board.

Correct, and it was not a comment on the quality of his content.

More so a gentle jab (joke) at the oddity of 4 posts in a row in your own thread.

I noticed that we hadn’t got a milestones thread yet for this season, so I thought I’d start one. Just figured that if I had all the skater, blue line and goalie stats in one single post it would get way, way, too long. Oh, and the Loui post was a story in itself. So, there you go.

Were Suitcase Smith to have played equal games to Lou he'd have 26 shutouts (mathematically speaking).

Impressive for the era he played in and second only to Roberto all time as far as Canucks go.

Eccentricities?

Gary wore (allegedly) up to a dozen pairs of socks for additional padding under his skates.

He was also nicked Axe due to his propensity for swinging his stick at opponents around his cage.

Undressed, took a cold shower and geared back up between every period (including new socks).

There's more....
