I’d be more interested in which defensemen the Canucks can snag off other teams than who they might lose. I think they can look at waiving Juolevi and Hunt if they can find someone as good or better. If Hamonic is gone they only have six defensemen they should be overly concerned about losing:

Poolman OEL
Schenn Hughes
Myers Rathbone

That leaves two spots that they could fill internally or externally. Really even Schenn can be waived if enough good defensemen hit the waiver wire. They should keep an eye on whoever Seattle waives and maybe other defensively deep teams and snag their scraps. There’s a very good possibility that defensemen better than Juolevi, Hunt and Schenn will hit the waiver wire next week.

Well as someone else noted (Megs?), Jonah is waiver exempt. This is good news, there is something there still, this buys time.

No sense in speculation on pick ups until we know about Hamonics absence.

Look for Petan, MacEwen, Burroughs and Bowey to be waived & sent to Abby.

23-player active roster:

miller-petey-boeser
hoglander-horvat-garland
pearson-dickinson-podkolzin
gadjovich-highmore-lockwood
di giuseppe
(motte still recovering from surgery, Sutter - fatigue)

oel-poolman
rathbone-myers
hughes-schenn
juolevi-hunt

demko
halak

20-player game roster:
Look for OJ, hunt & one of the 4th liners to be a healthy scratch.

When Sutter is healthy, Lockwood goes to Abby. Moter comes back, that'll be a tough call.
Can the Canucks just win a Cup within the next 5 years.

I would say because of age, MacEwen stays over Hunt.. but hey, still 5 more games for guys to get hurt.

.. this is what we need to be looking at.

It doesn’t matter who we lose (if any) to waivers. They are all kind of the same. The only real difference is their potential, which (to be honest) isn’t much, or they would have already made the team.

Anyone we send through waivers crosses the Sea of Granlund’s first, and they are all pretty much veteran sailors. We are still draining that particular swamp.

We need to be looking at who we could skim from somewhere else, not at who we are losing.

[edit] - and nothing on the wire so far excites me. Let them pass.

Don't we wanted to be looking at the final cuts, to pick up an 8/9 who would be a 7/8 for us?

These early cuts are not what we're looking for.

Yah nothing likely here yet, but keep an eye out, you never know when some GM is trying to sneak a Markstrom through waivers early.

A decent depth centre would make be nice, particularly with Sutter’s uncertainty

With Abby a couple hours away, I wouldn’t be surprised to see no real cuts and let the juniors (and junior coaches) have extra time to see how the big boys do it. Better for development, better for systems (for guys getting call ups) better for youngsters to see how the pro’s do it.. a true training camp

I wouldn’t be surprised if we simply see less and less rookies in the preseason games as next week rolls by.

When they say Highmore was on a relative tear, is that like Wellwood playing like a man possessed?

Doc, your thoughts?
Over the Internet, you can pretend to be anyone or anything.

I'm amazed that so many people choose to be complete twats.
