Re: Brandon Sutter extension
Agree Doc.
I wouldn't even want Birdbones coming back for the league minimum. His history with injuries means you need salary and roster spot to have someone as reliable to replace him for a good portion of the season.
He's slowed way down from those hernia surgeries and who knows how C-19 has affected him. JB would get slaughtered if he brought him back for a few more years.
Might as well just upgrade and move on from Sutter.

Re: Brandon Sutter extension
Lowry would be the right guy to replace Sutter if they can find some dollars but someone like Cizikas from the Islanders is probably more realistic.
Re: Brandon Sutter extension
I don't disagree with looking for a replacement, but I also don't have an issue with him being PlanB if the price and term fit.Strangelove wrote: ↑Tue Apr 13, 2021 4:35 pmI stand corrected, seems a coupla folks are good with brining him back at the right price.Richardstroker69 wrote: ↑Tue Apr 13, 2021 12:49 pmExactly he can still play at the nhl level, he was fine in the bubble and this year as well, ideally he slots in as your fourth line center pk specialist. Of course he needs to be paid like a fourth line center (and not the beagle variety).Topper wrote: ↑Tue Apr 13, 2021 9:16 amDepending on the price/term, I don't object.Strangelove wrote: ↑Mon Apr 12, 2021 7:30 pmIs anyone in this thread serious about bringing Sutter back?Cousin Strawberry wrote: ↑Mon Apr 12, 2021 7:29 pm They cant bring Sutter back man...they just cant
I will graduate to hash chunks if that happens. Ill only be able to type random letters and garbled symbols if i start sizzling those nuggs
I doubt it.
Well maybe Mick...
Is there a 3C in the system ready to displace him and what is the cost of replacement?
Me, I'd rather go shopping for a Sutter-upgrade in UFAgency.
Sutter is 32 now, is injury prone, and has slowed down some.
All the surgeries/groin issues haven't done him any favours.
Also I wouldn't mind seeing a bit of an asshole in that spot.
But to each their own...
Look for UFA's to do as they did last off season and jump to the first offer they get in order to secure a job next season that isn't in Europe.
Re-signing Edler (unfortunately no one has, or shows any sign of displacing his minutes) is a higher priority for UFA's

Re: Brandon Sutter extension
How about replacing him with a center who can collect the odd fucking assist? Sutter is nowhere near what this team needs and replacing him needs to be a focus imo

His groin is worn and torn. It ain’t holding up for another season. Move along people. Nothing to see here.

Re: Brandon Sutter extension
My fear is that if they bring Sutter back (even at minimum), he will be gifted a spot for the intangibles he brings. Someone (either a UFA or internal development) could out play/ out compete him in training camp and Sutter wins his roster spot because Sutter is Sutter.
That’s my fear.

I don't think need both Sutter and Beagle, but one of them for the next year at least is a sound idea. The problem with not bringing him back is that creates a hole and we know how Jimmy fills UFA holes!
The only HW the Canucks need

Re: Brandon Sutter extension
This is so true.
Neither Benning nor Gillis employed very good pro scouting it seems. The guys brought in are much more miss than hit, but at least when you're winning, you can attract better quality players, especially UFAs willing to give a slight haircut.
Benning's trades... some have been excellent. Some, not so great. Especially because he either has no leverage (Kesler) or doesn't seem to like using his leverage to get better value. He prefers to remove the perceived problem asap, often sweetening the pot to get it done quicker.
But drafting? Pure genius.

Those things may not be coincidental at all.Carl Yagro wrote: ↑Tue Apr 13, 2021 8:52 pm This is so true.

If they re-sign Sutter, it shouldn't be until about a week before training camp. His value is low, and I doubt there are a ton of teams lining up to sign him. Definitely do not sign him day 1. Give the other GM's a chance to over-pay him first, and spend the time looking for a better alternative than Sutter. Shit, I think Emil Pettersson at league minimum isn't much worse than Sutter or Beagle, and cheaper than either one.

This I agree with. Jimbro is like a teen with a weekend pass in a whorehouse... just can’t wait to blow his load on day 1Tciso wrote: ↑Tue Apr 13, 2021 9:16 pm If they re-sign Sutter, it shouldn't be until about a week before training camp. Agree 100%, and if Green is back expect to see the same team as we have now.Madcombinepilot wrote: ↑Tue Apr 13, 2021 8:11 pm My fear is that if they bring Sutter back (even at minimum), he will be gifted a spot for the intangibles he brings. My preference is neither, both can be replaced with younger, faster and stronger players.Hockey Widow wrote: ↑Tue Apr 13, 2021 8:37 pm I don't think need both Sutter and Beagle, but one of them for the next year at least is a sound idea. Re: Brandon Sutter extension
It all depends on price and term, I’ve been pretty vocal that we should run Miller at center and then go shopping for wingers in ufa (or even better yet wingers that play center). So if sutter comes back at under 2m a year for super short term i think he’s good depth. If beagle is able to play however then there’s no point.Topper wrote: ↑Tue Apr 13, 2021 5:19 pmI don't disagree with looking for a replacement, but I also don't have an issue with him being PlanB if the price and term fit.Strangelove wrote: ↑Tue Apr 13, 2021 4:35 pmI stand corrected, seems a coupla folks are good with brining him back at the right price.Richardstroker69 wrote: ↑Tue Apr 13, 2021 12:49 pmExactly he can still play at the nhl level, he was fine in the bubble and this year as well, ideally he slots in as your fourth line center pk specialist.
