Honestly think Pat made a bad trade giving up Gus for Rusty. Not horrible but I was a big fan of Gus.Carl Yagro wrote: ↑Sun May 22, 2022 7:26 pm We had both Courtnalls. One was much better than the other.

...never did like Russ Courtnall.
Did like Greg Adams as you note.
Scored a lot of big goals for us.

Re: 2022 Draft Class
I can't recall all the details after the 94 run, but it seemed that Pat didn't realize what he had and got rid of a few important pieces that led to a quick demise of what could have been a few more years of an extended run.
Yeah, I agree it was a bad move to trade Gus... perhaps he knew of his injury status? Either way, Gus Adams was clutch. Shit, that whole team had clutch players.
I think Pat walked away from Geoff Courtnall over contract and thought moving pieces around and bringing in Russ would make no difference. Big mistakes by the Big Irishman. Antagonizing Bure, letting Larionov go... anyone else I forgot about?

Re: 2022 Draft Class
The Russian defenseman Pavel Mintykov seems like a good fit for us needs wise right now but I doubt he slips to 15. We can hope. Kevin Korchinski seems okay too. Couple of interesting Russian forwards in there too...

According to Bob Cole (Oh, baby!) we didn't have the best Sundin.

Yeah, that's why we signed Sundin... just to fuck with them.Carl Yagro wrote: ↑Sun May 22, 2022 8:03 pmAccording to Bob Cole (Oh, baby!) we didn't have the best Sundin.

Letting Cliff Ronning go to free agency. Arizona came with a bag of money and the Canucks lost a creative and productive centerman who was loyal to the franchise at a core emotional level. Quinn took the L on that one hard.Carl Yagro wrote: ↑Sun May 22, 2022 7:37 pm

Another Pat mistake was elevating Rick Ley to the head coaching position. Ley may well have deserved it on technical merit, and was a loyal lieutenant deserving of his own command, and so forth, yet have been the wrong voice for that time. Certainly the team went into a swoon.
Antagonizing Gretzky by demanding an immediate answer? Was that on Quinn's watch as well?

This is jogging the old memories...
Stan Fucking McCammon
Funny enough, Arthur Griffiths had a chance at the Great One in 1988, but they were asking for too much, according to Brian Burke. So it never materialized and Gretzky went to LA.
At the time, I thought Pat killed it by stealing Mogilny from the Sabres, taking advantage of their financial restraints. But in hindsight, the dynamic duo of Bure & Mogilny never panned out and the grit, toughness, depth and team dynamics of 94 was completely altered with all of Pat's moves or non-moves.Kenji wrote: ↑Sun May 22, 2022 10:29 pm Letting Cliff Ronning go to free agency. According to Gretzky himself, he already had verbally agreed to sign with the Canucks and wanted to formally sign in the morning: https://www.sportsnet.ca/hockey/nhl/way ... pat-quinn/
