Meh... it’s kinda weak. Like a Denny’s Seafood restaurant.

I got no real good eats here in the Tri Cities. There’s a decent Indian place on Westwood, the Keg, a solid Greek restaurant by Costco, The Arms, KC’s, San Remo for pizza and KC’s no not KFC. KC’s is a good breakfast joint on prairie. Hopefully some decent restaurants open up after the province eventually opens up.

Wing Ding Wednesday- then they doubled it to 10 cents. That place was fun from say 1990 -2000. It was a great place to go. The owners care more about the way the waitresses look than the quality of food or service. I go there the odd time as my buddy’s shop is over there, but it’s a dive big time. Been a couple bad ass beatings involving the bouncers and patrons there over the years as well. It gets an angry element in there from time to time..... though nothing like Frisco’s back in the day.

Yeah, Forsberg basically had two problems that lead to missing a lot of games.

The first was that unlike many NHL stars, who had a "police" guarding them on the ice, Foppa did his own police work. He gave and he took on the ice, which of course does take it's toll. Not as bad as in the case of Lindros, he didn't suffer many concussions iirc, but a fairly similar situation. Guess it was a sign of the times.

But the main problem was his feet. He had extremely strong and rigid arches, the opposite of flat feet, which lead to his feet bearing his entire weight on the outside rim, and slowly becoming more and more twisted, so that he evemtually more or less walked (and skated) on the side of his feet. Add 100+kg of muscle and explosive skating, and you get a whole lot of stress fractures, healing in all the wrong ways. Eventually in 2006 he had an orthopedic team break all the bones in his right foot and the put them back together. Once that had healed enough so he could support his weight on that leg, they did the same thing to his left foot. Unfortunately this type of medieval torture did not help. His feet shrunk and twisted during games, so he had to adjust his skates between shifts, and eventually he gave up. Took quite some time though... 57 games (+5 playoff games) in 06/07, 9 games (+7 playoff games) in 07/08, 3 games in the SHL in 08/09, 23 games in the SHL in 09/10 plus 4 at the Olympics, 2 NHL games in 10/11 and then he finally gave up and called it quits, five years after the surgery that he hoped could salvage his career.

I think this 'Pettersson is overrated' conversation is borne of overreaction to the fact that he's had a funky season so far. If he had carried on his pace from last year, I don't think we'd be having this conversation. You look at his PPG last season and it was better than his rookie season. This season's a blip, and I don't think we've seen the best Pettersson yet.

Is he generational? Probably not. Does the team need him to be generational in order to win a Cup? Probably not.

He's a legit #1 centre, and I would put him in the top 10 of #1 centres in the league. Benning just has to build around him, Boeser, Hughes and Demko.

And be prepared to move him in about 5 years before the big contract.. you just know there is a team that will give up good pieces - and too many of them- to get talent like this. :D

Seldom does a team win a trade when giving away a star player - allow me to be skeptical of Benning's ability to fleece a GM in trading away Pettersson.

Well no shit.....but I don't see the Foppa comparisons at all. Forsberg was 6'0 205lbs, Petey is 6'2" 176lbs. Sure he may possess a similar tenacity and drive to compete, but to date I've seen that work its way out as frustrated pouting, not in hard work on the boards and constantly frustrating defenders.

I'd be thrilled if Pete could be even a 90 point guy.
Oh, he’ll get there alright!

Remember how the twins started out with 30 point seasons and then worked their way up to 100?

Well, Petey started with consecutive 60+ point seasons, so all things being equal, he ought to reach 200 at his peak! 8-)
I mean a career 90 point guy. Hell, if he can be a career 82 point guy that would be great.

The Sedins were career 65 point players. They started slow, peaked, and dropped off.
Career, eh? OK, 90 goals over 82 games is an 1.097 ppg clip. So basically 1.10.

Only 34 players in the history of the NHL meet that criterion. But sure, we're talking generational... :drink:

It'd be amazing if he made that list!

He is at 0.93 right now, so not that far away. Ranking in at 154th of 7250 NHL players of all time; two slots behind Daniel Alfredsson, five ahead of Joe Thornton.

Assuming he keeps improving for another two or three years, then stays at that level for another five to eight before starting to lose some of his edge, he could end up up there. Definitely among the 100 greatest ppg scorers of all time, for sure.

Oh, btw, smart move by Shep Mayer and John English to quit after two and three games respectively, that way ensuring that they will be firmly lodged in the top ten for all eternity!

Pretty cool that both Bobby and Brett Hull ended with the exact same PPG.

Pettersson is Henrik like. Not the best in the league, but still a very good player.
I wouldn’t trade Henrik in a quality for quantity type trade, so I wouldn’t trade Petey.
Unless you can get an equivalent or better player one for one, you don’t trade a quality number one centre.
This whole thread is weird. He’s still a kid who we know preforms well in the playoffs. He had a poor start to this weird Covid season, but he’s turned that around. His upside is unknown. With some preseason games, I doubt he’ll ever start a season this poorly again.
We are all Jim Benning.

Pettersson is the team's best center, best forward, and has potential to get even better. He possesses the best shot, the best hands, the best vision, and his play is pretty good in his own end (and should improve with experience and continuing to physically mature). The only cracks are a question of whether he is prone to injury and the fact that he came into the league with a compete level off the charts and we've now seen a couple spells where he gets into his own head and doesn't get out of it by working harder.

Overrated if he's the "Swedish Gretzky," but not overrated if the expectation is that he ends no future Canuck will wear #40 if he plays in Vancouver until he is 30.

Isn't this thread just a big 'ol strawman? Who exactly was it that said Petey was generational? C'mon stand up :)
