One step forward, one back. not really though..
Joshua Clipperton @JClipperton_CP
Jay Beagle has been added to the NHL's COVID-19 protocol list. Adam Gaudette, who was first on, is now off so the Canucks still have 19 players in protocol.

Hughes will holdout for Petey money, but he shouldn’t get more than McAvoy money. It’s that simple. Over three years Petey should be shy of Barzal’s 7m, so let’s say 6.5m for Petey. J.P. will smugly demand that for Hughes, too. Yet McAvoy makes 4.9m over three years. I guarantee J.P. won’t want to accept that for Hughes even if Hughes is a minus 17 this season. J.P. will argue for potential, but potential isn’t a thing on a three year bridge deal. You pay for potential on a long term deal after proving you deserve it on a bridge deal. The Canucks should only pay for potential if they strike a long term deal. Long term Hughes deserves no more than Chabot money 8m x 8.

J.P. Is too smug to accept that, so I guarantee Hughes will hold out. Book it! The only question is can J.P. Smugmister convince Petey to hold out to support Hughes? That’s a 50/50 call. Those are my signing predictions, and I’m sticking with them.

Hey, have I ever been wrong before?

Don’t answer that.

I completely agree with you Hughes value.

And also, yes, Petey holding out too would be the only way that Hughes leverage is overly meaningful.

Canucks Acquire Centre Matthew Highmore (cap hit 725k)
... from Chicago Blackhawks in exchange for Adam Gaudette.

Highmore, 25, has recorded two points (0-2-2) and six penalty minutes in 24 games played with the Chicago Blackhawks this season. Over parts of three seasons with Chicago, he has collected 10 points (4-6-10) and 12 penalty minutes in 73 career NHL games.

The 5'11", 188-pound forward has skated in nine career NHL playoff games with the Blackhawks, all in 2019.20, collecting four points (3-1-4), including the game-winning goal in game four to force a fifth game against the Vegas Golden Knights in the Western Conference Quarterfinal.

Highmore has also appeared in 97 career AHL games with the Rockford IceHogs, recording 64 points (31-33-64) and 44 penalty minutes. His 24 goals as a rookie in 2017.18 set a team record for most goals by a rookie and ranked first among all Rockford skaters, while his 43 points ranked second.

A native of Halifax, Nova Scotia, Highmore was originally signed by the Chicago Blackhawks as an undrafted free agent on March 2, 2017.

Irfaan Gaffar @irfgaffar
Rogers Arena back open today for select player workouts and skates in very small groups, if not individually. Positive sign as we approach a possible game night Friday here in Vancouver vs. Edmonton.

Hope to hell this comes off as it could mean a great avenue for developing some younger and lesser used players. Vets need to work on their games too.

Jim Benning says 10 Canucks players skated today..guys are feeling good and ready to go. Other guys are still feeling some residual effects from COVID.. The next couple of weeks, we're still at home. So hopefully our guys start feeling better, their families start feeling better.
First and foremost it's about healthy, getting back on the ice, getting back in game shape. Once we get back on the ice, we play a lot of games in a short period of time. My hope is that, physically, the guys feel well.
Elias Pettersson is back skating and will meet with a specialist later this week
-----
Jim Benning on Podkolzin: He's under contract until April 30th. If he's going to be on the World Championship team for Russia, we won't get him until the end of May.
----
Benning on Gaudette: He felt he wanted to play higher in the lineup than he was. When we talked to him, it was about improving his two-way game. Felt it was the right time for him to get a fresh start. It was just the right time for both parties to move on.
----
Jim Benning: I don't necessarily know that it's a deep draft this year...I'm excited about getting that extra pick for our group. We're not going to have the viewings like we've had in past year. We're going to rely more on analytics.
I value picks in every round. Coming from the amateur scouting side, when I was running drafts, a fifth round pick, I'd be excited about.
----
At some point we might get some younger guys in the lineup. By moving Benn out, Juolevi's going to get a chance to play the rest of the year.

Pearson on his new contract and the team getting through their shut-down

So wife tweets about the BS of covid protocols and mask wearing, added to rumours of a Whistler get-away, added to being the first to test positive and spread that shit = a trade? Is that right
