Habs aren’t the Canucks either...Richardstroker69 wrote: ↑Thu Apr 08, 2021 4:06 pmToffoli another 40 point guy signed for a million more, it’s a pretty fair contract for a middle six winger that can put up 40 points is defensively reliable, and is buddies with horvat. He’ll help podkolzin next year as well.

Contracts and cap issues we were hamstrung in the Toffoli negotiations I thought.Richardstroker69 wrote: ↑Thu Apr 08, 2021 4:12 pmNot sure what you’re getting at.rats19 wrote: ↑Thu Apr 08, 2021 4:10 pmHabs aren’t the Canucks either...Richardstroker69 wrote: ↑Thu Apr 08, 2021 4:06 pmToffoli another 40 point guy signed for a million more, it’s a pretty fair contract for a middle six winger that can put up 40 points is defensively reliable, and is buddies with horvat. Re: Canucks News N Notes 2020-2021
I’m just using toffoli as a comparison for pearson in the covid cap world. 3.25 for 3 years, taking him to age 32 is pretty decent for a 20 goal 40 point guy that can do the heavy lifting in a matchup role. I also see the rationale with the lockerroom, he’s a good friend of bo, and with all the young guys bitching about the lockerroom changeover at the beginning of the year it makes sense keeping him around.rats19 wrote: ↑Thu Apr 08, 2021 4:16 pmContracts and cap issues we were hamstrung in the Toffoli negotiations I thought.Richardstroker69 wrote: ↑Thu Apr 08, 2021 4:12 pmNot sure what you’re getting at.rats19 wrote: ↑Thu Apr 08, 2021 4:10 pmHabs aren’t the Canucks either...Richardstroker69 wrote: ↑Thu Apr 08, 2021 4:06 pmToffoli another 40 point guy signed for a million more, it’s a pretty fair contract for a middle six winger that can put up 40 points is defensively reliable, and is buddies with horvat. I figured he was the one piece we would flip at the deadline.

You didn’t hit any nerves. It’s a dumb dumb contract for a player who moves like a glacier.ESQ wrote: ↑Thu Apr 08, 2021 4:09 pmEeeeasy big guy, I really hit a nerve! I didn't say I love it,I just said it's fine.Vin Tanner wrote: ↑Thu Apr 08, 2021 3:07 pmHe can’t skate. Full stop. He moves like Craig Coxe. So after seven years we still don’t have any young guys to come in and steal this slug’s job?ESQ wrote: ↑Thu Apr 08, 2021 3:03 pmLOL it's totally fine Blob, just take it easy!Vin Tanner wrote: ↑Thu Apr 08, 2021 2:53 pm Shocked that Doc, Chef, Topper, ESQ, SKYO and the other ball washers aren’t here telling everyone what a great signing this is.
He took a half-mil pay cut, and he's paid like a 30-point forward.
I don’t give a shit what pay cut he took. He’s a 4th line player on a good team that should be paid under 2 million. Not shocking you love the move. You’ve been in lockstep with everything they’ve done.
Dealing with Loui or Schmidt's cap hits takes care of all cap problems, $3.25 is a marginal cap hit for a roster player.
Comparing Loui Eriksson who’s about a # 15-18 forward in most organizations to Nate Schmidt, a legit # 2/3 d man on most any team is baffling to say the least. Their cap hits are similar. That’s where the similarity ends.

Actually, perhaps the plan is to expose him, as he is not probably the most eligible player on the roster.Cousin Strawberry wrote: ↑Thu Apr 08, 2021 4:04 pm So full no trade in year one, limited no trade in year2 and no protection in year 3. Also the team will protect him in the exp draft for some reason even though his contract doesnt formally require it? Wtf?
If Pearson is exposed and taken, I could get behind that.

I guess the silver lining is the extension isn’t five or six years. Must be saving the term for Jimmy Feces.Madcombinepilot wrote: ↑Thu Apr 08, 2021 4:31 pmI figured he was the one piece we would flip at the deadline.

Not surprised he was re-signed but for that dollar amount? huh?
In isolation it is a bad signing, guess I will wait to see how the rest of the summer goes before commenting on the job Benning is doing.
1 thing I know for sure now, Benning is staying on as GM, he ain't going anywhere after this season is done.

It’s unfortunate, but I don’t think a decent hockey man would come here and work for these greaseball owners.

Re: Canucks News N Notes 2020-2021
I don't like the trade protection. He's a solid two way guy, nothing spectacular, streaky scorer. Two thing in his favour are he fills the long search for a guy to play with Horvat rather than the endless revolving door and if you flat cap look for a replacement, you're looking at the Josh Leivo's of the world.
If rumours of Beagle being done with his injury are true, Pearson can fit but patients must have run out with Jake and they are ready to stop wasting resources on his development and cut bait.

Re: Canucks News N Notes 2020-2021
What I read is, 1st year Full NTC (but can be exposed in expansion draft), 2nd year 7 team NTC, 3rd year no trade protection. If that is accurate, it is okay. Not great, just okay. Did think about the Beagle angle, if true, welcome back Sutter. Jake is 1 guy I could see getting traded in the off season, with COVID don't think it happens during the season.Topper wrote: ↑Thu Apr 08, 2021 4:49 pm I don't like the trade protection. Re: Canucks News N Notes 2020-2021
Why are they going through all this with protecting him from the krackers? Which one is Drance again? Is he a meat puppet? The contract will include a full no-trade clause in the first year, a modified seven-team no-trade clause in the second year, and no protection in the third year, reports The Athletic's Thomas Drance.
The two sides also agreed the club will protect Pearson in the upcoming expansion draft even though his contract doesn't formally require it, Drance added.

Because they don’t have seven good forwards to protect. After seven years. What depth we have. Rumour has it they are closing in on an extension with Sutter.Cousin Strawberry wrote: ↑Thu Apr 08, 2021 4:55 pmWhy are they going through all this with protecting him from the krackers?
