Well, when it comes to geography, I tend to use geographical terms.Mëds wrote: ↑Mon Jul 27, 2020 7:05 pmSince you live on the other side of the pond, I guess this is a case of terminology being somewhat cultural.Per wrote: ↑Wed Jul 22, 2020 3:24 pmOK, but than Hischier isn’t European either, as Switzerland is outside of the EU as well.
I stupidly assumed that by Euros you meant players from Europe. My bad.
But in that case only four Euro players have gone first overall, so it’s really too few to build any kind of statistics on.
I can't think of anyone that I know here in North America who would consider Russians to be European.....they're Russians. Maybe that would be different if I was talking to people under the age of 30, however, for my generation, Europe stopped at the Russian border: The old Soviet Union.
I get that in terms of continental geography the majority of Russia's population is in Europe.
Which is also why I think the name CONCACAF makes no sense whatsoever.
The Confederation of North, Central American and Caribbean Association Football.
Now, the Caribbean and Central America are parts of North America, so it all makes no sense.
It’s like if UEFA would call itself the Union of European, Balkan and Scandinavian Football Associations; the concepts of the Balkan and Scandinavia are implicit in the concept of Europe.
Just like Central America and the Caribbean are implicit in the concept of North America.
Yes, Mexicans are North Americans. Everything north of the Panama Canal is.
So why not just rename Concacaf CoNAFA; the Confederation of North American Fotball Associations?
It would still cover the same geographical area and would make a lot more sense.
