I'd say Hughes has far exceeded his projected value whereas Dahlin has slightly underwhelmed....but as you say, this is what 1 and a half years after draft? Waaay too early.
Underwhelmed? Seriously? :o

The kid has not yet turned twenty and is in his second NHL season.
He had 44 points last year. As an 18-yo blueliner.

Your expectations must have been astronomical!

Both Dahlin and Hughes are fantastic.
And it's way too early to sum up their careers at this point.

Seriously, most D-men hit their stride in their late twenties, so we still have no clue to what they will look like in their peak years.
Just that they are already awesome hockey players and that it is not inconceivable that both could earn Norrises.
Per... keep in mind the Chef has likely never seen Dahlin play a game. He just goes by points but neglects to mention one guy had a concussion and played less games. Der’s dat narrative again.

“And Red Wings select Filip Zadina!” - Kenny BC Holland

Hardeggs is probably picking Zadina, Kotkaniemi, Hayton and Tkachuk ahead of the Calder candidate and future Norris Trophy winner - Quinn Hughes, he’s that out to lunch

Earlier in the thread I said I’d pick Hughes after Dahlin and the Russian. Reading not your thing? I guess an could dig up some of your posts about hoping the Canucks don’t pick that “shrimp” Hughes. Up and down like a whore’s pants. Never change.

I'm not really going into a debate of who is better; they are both great young d-men with tons of potential.
But it's kind of unfair to throw out the number of points without acknowledging that one of the players has missed games due to injury..... :|

Huey still has a slightly higher PPG, but it's not as big a difference as you made it seem.

Maybe we get to see them with their current teams head to head in a best of seven game series. Only one way that happens.

Did you know that Doyle said many times he would have been ok with picking either or of Bouchard or Dobson instead of Hughes?

Bouchard - AHL 25 games 3 goals 11 assists
Dobson - Islanders - 10 games 0 goals 10 assists

I’ve seen him plenty. Hughes is just way too dynamic, flawless, brilliant, smart, skilled, skating. He’s a future Norris Triohy winner

Top 7 picks of 2018

Svechnikov - 12 goals 19 assists
Hughes - 2 goals 21 assist
Tkachuk - 9 goals 7 assists
Dahlin - 1 goal 15 assists
Kotkaniemi - 3 goals 2 assists
Hayton - 1 goal 3 assists
Zadina - AHL

I’m picking him 2nd after Svechnikov

1. Svechnikov
2. Hughes
3. Dahlin
4. Tkachuk
5. Madden
6. Farabee

The rest? Whatevs
^ Canucks homer right here.
Ya think? I’m shocked he hasn’t got Madden at #2. Then again he watches Vancouver games only and is usually inebriated when he does watch them.

Pronman had him 21st in a redraft prior to this season. With the season he’s having he’s moved up a number of spots without question. Top 10? Do not discount it after the dust settles. Now be on your way child, you won’t win this one

Look, I’m very happy with Hughes. Great pick, who most likely will have a great career. And yeah, as I stated before, it’s not inconceivable that we are talking Norris level at his peak.

But have you ever seen an 18-yo d-man play like this in the NHL? :eh:

Quinn Hughes is 28pts behind Dahlin in a whole season less.

Dahlin .50 ppg.

Q. Hughes .77 ppg.

A. Svech .65 ppg.

Tkachuk .62 ppg.

In a couple years Hughes could be best goddamn player in the 2018 NHL draft.
2020 playoffs - STL focusing on him like a Doughty, Carlson, Karlsson, Keith....but QH been playing a top game in men's hockey longer successfully for awhile now, including 2018 (youngest member), 2019 Team USA Men's.
Can the Canucks just win a Cup within the next 5 years.

He's a bigger defender than Hughes. Quinn is actually a much better defender than any of us credit him for. He's smart enough that he makes up for his small stature with a quick stick and great anticipation. He loses the physical battles in front, but along the boards he's good at timing his arrival, giving a little bump and tracking the loose puck quickly.

Buffalo and Vancouver were in similar states at the time of the draft.....in fact, the Sabers quite arguably had the better young talent on their roster.

The Canucks are a playoff team, the Sabers are not. Hughes has been a team changer, Dahlin has not.
